If you count air forces, then the Eagles and bats make it the Battle of Eight Armies. Plus, there were two separate dwarf forces, and there will possibly be multiple orc ones in the film if the Misty Mountain goblins show up (which I don't expect, but still). Anyway, my point is that Jackson has even more options to pick from here then he did in trying to decide what "The Two Towers" referred to (even though Tolkien gave us an answer on that one).

I would not be surprised to see a Mumakil charge thru. In peejers ever diminishing mind, he'd assume Mum's were around long before LOTRs so, why not drag a few in ? .........winged fell beast ? ..............Giant Ungoliant Spiders?.................. I know ! cheers

from past experience, they will have Bilbo running around Killing stuff with Sting. I doubt they will show him getting knocked out for most of the battle. I also think they will have Billy Connolly do a Theoden Rohirrim style battle pep talk to his 'troops' you know like in ROTK Rolling Eyes

"elves to kill." ? What the hell does that mean? Is this going to be like the barrel sequence? What if it's the battle of five armies all fighting EACH OTHER?!?!?!

My guess is there will be a big fight between elves and dwarves, and then between elves,dwarves and men, and then finally, somehow tied into the events at Dol Guldur, the goblins ect turn up and only then do the rest stop fighting each other.

Hmm so we've got Elves, Dwarves, Men, Orcs (and goblins which are apparently a seperate race according to PJ), Smaug, Bats, Eagles, Beorn, The Necromancer and a whole bunch of made up shizzle at Dol Guldor, with the BOFA apparently taking place in the snow I'm honestly at a loss trying to visualize what Jackson has got planned.

Maybe that's for the best...

They never actually came to blows there though. So it might be an indication of one thing they are changing, I guess. Shrugging

Pretty much, but it was Dwarves against Elves and Men. And it was a peaceable stand-off until Dain arrived, and no fighting actually happened, it was just about to happen rather reluctantly. PJ will probably dork with the politics of this and it won't look the same.

Yeah, like Halfy says, it's just a stand-off until Gandalf stops it at the last minute. So it's definitely something I could see PJ changing. That said, I don't think Billy Connolly's comment is necessarily conclusive evidence on that.
