Sometimes I really resent people with desk jobs, but more often I'm just incredibly jealous.

Jealous of a desk job...

Id go stark raving crackers behind a desk, or factory ! Ive done these sort of jobs & it all ended in tears & not necessarily mine Im an outdoorsy person, I like something were no 2 days are the same, I like a challenge..........& the outdoors. Id rather dig ditches than sit behind a desk

Ok, you guys are gonna hate me.  I live a block from work, which allows me to largely sit at home in my recliner with my laptop, working away and of course procrastinating with Forumshire.  I can pop in for meetings and such, then go back.   I tend to work in bursts, turning things over in my mind before I buckle down and churn things out in a few days.

But it's soft money; never sure if the funding will keep rolling in.  So I'm looking for some small college for a teaching job, research in the summers.  That will make me happier even if I can't spend quite so much of my time in the recliner typing away.  But writing lectures, grading papers...that's where I'll be.  Assuming I get the job.

I would go bonkers behind a desk too, I feel trapped and want to escape, that's why I am a permanent student, nobody tells me what to do and I have physical freedom to procrastinate til the cows come home. It takes years of practice to get the work/farting about ratio off to a T. I do tend to lean towards the farting about but at least I love my subject so its not like I don't enjoy working.

Oh, alright. I've done about 45 minutes of unfocused work today, and I'm going to go work for another hour now, and then go to the gym.

So, at least I'll have done something.

I ended up skipping both that hour and the gym, but, ah, well. There's always tommorow.. or the day after that..

I thought I knew about procrastination when I was a student, but listening to people with desk jobs now, I clearly didn't know the first thing.

I was an intern at the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration: the folks who sponsor the weather service, etc. I got the impression all they did was talk about rotisserie baseball.

That was back when I was a high school teacher, before I got a desk job. As a teacher I was in the mode of coming in and working my fool head off; teachers have a hard time relaxing.

But now I get it.

On the other hand, I work into the night and weekends.

its funny but I get my best ideas when I am driving. I go into auto pilot and then I wonder how I'd rove 10 miles because I cant remember a damn thing about it.

Those of you who have felt sorry for Petty living in a barrel... well, look at the size of those things.

If the scale in that picture is accurate, then I'm pretty sure those barrels are bigger than my current bedroom.

Let this be a lesson to you all. It's never to early to start saving up for retirement.
