They'll probably just use make-up to have a single actor play the adult Tolkien at every age from 20 to 70.
Cumberbatch does actually look a bit like the young Tolkien, though. And he is a good actor, even though I haven't been too impressed by his choice of roles lately.

He's getting to be quite a big deal though. So, I guess it would have to be a proper big deal biopic for them to even be able to get him involved. Though, that said, The Imitation Game was pretty much made as an independent movie. So, who knows. If it's the right project, maybe he'll get involved.. he said about a fictional role in a fictional project, assuming the actor and director in this fictional scenario has even contemplated the question.
