Well I finally got started on Pertwee's stuff (though this was a couple of weeks ago so I'm basing in on memory) I'm only three stories in, and to be frank it's not doing much for me so far. I liked the Brigadier (though it seems he's the only constant in UNIT so far, his soldiers are rather useless and interchangeable) in the Invasion and it's nice to have him back, he and Pertwee seem to have a good chemistry and it's nice to see more location shooting. Pertwee is a solid lead, but not one I find particularly interesting so far (granted he hasn't got any meaty storyline so far)-the 'slighty rough dandy with a nice coat' seems rather middle of the road to me, though I like his car, very conspicuous!

On the other hand, all the stories I've watched so far seem to be dragging more so than Hartnell's or Troughton's (7 parts seems a odd number what was wrong with 6?) with no real spark or momentum to the arc of the Doctor, just the same formula over and over 'Monsters attack a mine/farm have dealings with a sneaky human, alot of waffle then a fight, the end'.

This is going to make me sound like a cranky old fuddy duddy but I think I actually preferred early who in Black and White it just seems more atmospheric and 'alien', stranding the doctor on earth in the 70's just makes the show feel a bit grim and predictable for me (though I think it was a good idea in principle to ground the show to one setting) and the dodgy picture quality on the DVD's does the eps no favours (why couldn't they restore the colour eps as well? The picture quality on the 60's stuff was by and large excellent...).

Hartnell's still my fave so far Shocked

I don't know, maybe I need time to adjust.

 Shrugging

Pertwee is my least favourite era, there are some good stories in there, the first
Spoiler:
story springs to mind as does Inferno, but the action hero, gadget Doctor never sat right with me, and the setting got repetitive as it demands, as you point out, that the aliens handily attack somewhere close by ever week.

Yeah I liked the Silurian story (apart from the Dinosaur that was just silly) but his era just feels complacent 'Oh sod it we haven't got the money let's just rehash the story again next month'.

Apparently he is Capaldi's fave, as long as he is inlfluenced by his swagger not his storylines I'll be ok...

Well the costume has a touch of the Pertwee Doctor about it. I wont mind if he is more scientific as the 3rd was, just hopefully not quite so strait laced and I could do without the fake Venusian martial arts and the Whomobile  Mad

I missed this somehow at xmas time but a good giggle-

i am so tempted to make a forumshire song out of this melody, if someone wants to help me with the lyrics..
i have some lines..

a quiet forumshire tonight
not a hobbit to be seen
a kingdom of procrastination
and it looks like i'm the queen...
Queen Tin is howling
"i'm the only queen around!"
Norc has tried and tried

but failed to steel the crown

(i really suck at this but nighty night i have a five hour test tomorrow in "international english")

'Doctor Who picked up two BAFTA Television Craft Awards at last night's ceremony, held at The Brewery in London.
The annual event celebrates the very best behind-the-scenes talent in British television of the past year, and the 50th-anniversary special The Day of the Doctor won the Special, Visual & Graphic Effects title, with Milk VFX, Real SFX and The Model Unit being named in the citation, while An Adventure In Space And Time - the BBC Two drama centring on the genesis of Doctor Who - won for Make Up and Hair Design, with Vickie Lang named in the citation.
The triumph by The Day of the Doctor ended a seven-year run of being nominated in that category but losing.
More success for The Day of the Doctor and An Adventure In Space And Time could be on its way, however, at the TV BAFTAs, as An Adventure In Space and Time has been nominated for Single Drama and The Day of the Doctor is up for the Radio Times Audience Award'- Gallifrey Base

Congrats to the Who team!  cheers

Looks like Matt Smith couldn't get enough of time travel, because he's been cast in the upcoming Terminator reboot (which is already planned as a trilogy Rolling Eyes).

No I never saw that. In fact never heard of it until you mentioned it. Have you seen it and is it worth looking out for?

its an adaptation of the book by Philip Pullman of His Dark materials fame. Actually its a series of books, they are wonderful and a bit Steampunky in essence. I really enjoyed them. I have to say though, however much I like Billie Piper as an actress the books are ten times better than the BBC adaptation. I dont think she looks right in period dramas. Theres Ruby in the Smoke, The Shadow in the North, The Tin Princess and The Tiger in the Well.
