It's a shame that the current trend is to take abrasives out of acne scrub. I think they figured folks were just introducing more bacteria through tortured skin; but damn it sure felt nice to scrub and scour at zits like pummelling an enemy.

I used to use that stuff, Brazivol, it sounds like a mediaeval sword but it worked in conjunction with topical antibiotics. I don't get acne any more thank god, but the occasional whopper sometimes rears its ugly head. the best ever cure I found was very low percentage benzoyl peroxide gel at 2-5%. called Benzac. when I was a kid I used to think that nuking it with 10% peroxide would work, but it just destroys your skin and makes it sore. the secret is a low dose but constant, and it requires patience, but by jingo it worked.

The salicylic acid in acne rub works against pimples as well, which is why I have it.

Heard very mixed things about the Mind's eye productions, how does their LOTR compare to the BBC version?

This thread is nearly 3 1/2 years old and our total amount of positives stretches to 7 pages so far, half of which is probably off topic.
Is that funny, or sad?

Re: The Positive Thread
Funny or sad? I dunno ... but I'd call it a trenchant commentary on the artistic monument that is The Hobbit.

I did not know that.
I've never listened to the 1968 BBC Radio production of The Hobbit, it has a rather unique approach in that the narrator is often interrupted by Bilbo himself. Odd, I'm not sure how I feel about it!
https://archive.org/details/TheHobbit1Of8AnUnexpectedParty
Good lord, apparently Gandalf's name is pronounced "Gan-DAAHLF". No, no, no, this one won't do. Gandalf has a high-pitched voice and sounds like he enjoys watching one un-dress through steamy windows, if you know what I mean.
If you enjoy discordant music that sounds like an 8-year old (not a Mozart, that is) hitting random notes, then by all means skip to 10:15 on that link.
Bloody heck, "Goll-OOM" is it?
Although, on the other hand, I do like some of the sound-effects. Hm.. Interesting comparison.
Anyway, I admit that the Mind's Eye Hobbit has some flaws. Some parts are abridged too much, which is unfortunate in a relatively short book like the Hobbit. And there were some odd choices made for the voices of some characters and creatures. "Cartoonish" is perhaps a bit strong, but there it is.

Re: The Positive Thread
Jackanory did a 2 week special on The Hobbit in the 70s. Tried to find it but no luck. I'm sure Bernard Cribbins was one of the readers?
PS. Amazing what you find if you look.

Re: The Positive Thread
I had a nice cup of tea earlier, that's positive.
I still have the Blu ray of the first two films, lying right near me actually, I never got around to getting rid of them and I can't be bothered to rewatch them.
The cases are pretty thick though, they might make good doorstops...

Re: The Positive Thread
Just watched the films again, had to fast forward the fight with Smaug (smorg) in the lonely mountain. Don't like that bit.
Don't mind the scene when they come across the dead Dwarves, but the huge golden statue and the chasing around the place
wasn't for me.
Positives....The films were good till you got to the bad bits.
