Ah Basil Rathbone- he did use that a lot, his Watson (and the first Watson I consciously remember watching as a child), although he certainly did not coin the phrase. (Doc Brown in Back to the Future is also fond of it)
(Looks like I was wrong about the spelling, well depending on which origin you like- but a bit of digging Great Scott is either a corruption of the German "Groess Gott" (good God), or is a reference to a 1800's era general Winfield Scott - you learn something knew every day!)

I'd go with the German derivation. It was already an 'ejaculation', can't think of any good reason why anyone would say 'great (Winfield) Scot!'

omg that kid is so cute and omg!!
i think it totally shows how young kids just absorbe anything at that age, like a sponge, because their brains are made that way. kids has to learn alot in their first years, that's why their energy level can beat a professional football player and yeah they can learn anything at that age with encouragement and if they think it's fun and his family are good at cheering
