The Girl in the Fireplace wa sone of Moffats early episodes. Its the forerunner for the ideas that would become Amy Pond. And its also a great episode in own right with a moving finale.

“You know, it’s easy to find a job when you’ve got no morals, you’ve got nothing to be compromised, you can go, ‘Yeah, yeah. That doesn’t matter. That director can bully that prop man and I won’t say anything about it’. But then when that director comes to you and says ‘I think you should play it like this’ you’ve surely got to go ‘How can I respect you, when you behave like that? So, that’s why I left." - Eccleston

Watching a Who doco- Elizabeth Sladen recalling an incident when Pertwee, in full Doctor gear went into town- driving the Who mobile. It caused such a stir the police came up and said "Doctor, would you mind not drving here."
Love the fact the police called him Doctor! Very Happy

Was nosing the British Board of Film Classification site and on a whim decided to search for Doctor Who- some odd decisions for a show that goes out on a Saturday evening and is loved by children the country over.
For example Tooth and Claw- the Tennant episode with the werewolf where they meet Queen Victoria- is rated a 12- as is the God Complex from series 6- there are quite a few others from Nuwho which merit a 12 rating too all apparentlyl because they 'contain moderate threat'- but its Doctor Who watched from behind the sofa by genrations its supposed to have a moderate threat!
Even weirder classic Who episodes are all either Universal or PG and yet I can think of several which have more violence/blood or just horribleness than any modern Who- and they contain no more or less a sense of 'moderate threat' than Nuwho. Suspect

Keep in mind that the 12 certificate didn't even exist until 1989. Prior to that the next highest rating after PG was A (14 and older) or, after 1982, 15. There's a similar phenomenon in the U.S. where a lot of older movies that were rated PG would have been given the PG-13 rating had it existed before the '80s. Presumably the BBFC didn't feel that Classic Who was 'mature' enough to warrant an A/15 rating, but the 12 rating allows for more nuance.

Dont think thats the case here as most classic Who has only been released since DVD came about- there were very few video releases before hand and only of select episodes. So most of the episodes would have been classified for dvd release not at the timne of transmission (tv shows back then had no classification).

Having seen all of that series Amarie have you warmed any to Amy? As for me it is her character and performance the finale hinges on.

Amy's been approved. And I am happy to report that there is indeed life behind her eyes. Smith is brilliant though. And how old he looked sitting by Amelia's bed... Fascinating! But oh how I wanted to be in Amy's shoes in the Vincent episode... There I could really see myself in her.

Amy's been approved.- Amaria

Must be an upgrade! Very Happy Glad her character has begun to work on you.

Smith is brilliant though. And how old he looked sitting by Amelia's bed... Fascinating! - Amarie

By the time I got to the finale episode of series 5 I was already 90% sold on Smith but that one scene tipped it right over the edge- it is as you say fascinatng to watch and amazing that the youngest actor to ever play the Doctor can bring an age to the role that almost none of the others quite managed to achieve save Hartnell (who had the benifit of actually being old)- they all say they are old but hardly any of them come across old- he is old, wearied and sad in that scene in a way thats just a masterclass.
This is why of all Mrs Figg's critisims of NuWho the one that Matt is too young I take the least seriously, I had no doubt in that scene he was 900 odd years old! And I don't believe Mrs Figg will maintain the view he is too young for the role with enough episodes under her belt- I don't see how anyone could given the performance.

Every era of Who has its merits Orwell- thats why its still here!

@spoiler #2: Oh dearest Rory! I did miss that last bit. I am not sure if it is as Figgs say and they sometime mumble, or perhaps it was just the audio. Whatever the reason, there where many times we had to rewind to find out what was said.

Not speaking an other language I dont know if this a result of you watching in a non native tongue or something else- I believe Eldo had simialr problems with some of the LotR's actors (and in theory he speaks the SAME language as them!) where to my ear they all seemed perfectly clear- I am guessing its more what your ear is used to than a fault of the actors or the sound guys.
The Rory line is very much in the background however and I missed it myself until it was pointed out to me- I am not sure its not an improvised line from Arthur Darvill. Very Happy

Mrs Figg I fear you may have reached the point where you are cutting off your own nose to spite your face!
