I don't know - one part of me agrees with you, and fears what they might do to the story (we've all seen TH and how bad it can get), while another part wants to see Roland kick ass on-screen. If they can get The Gunslinger perfect, I'm happy. There are so many scenes there I would've loved to see - Roland telling the story about Tull in the dark cabin, while the owner (can't remember his name) thinks Roland is going to kill him. Walter giving Allie the letter telling what she may find out if she only says the word "nineteen", the way station, Roland and Walter's palaver (the script has to be ace for that one, preferably copy/paste from the book. Gods, how I would've loved a perfect adaptation of The Gunslinger

The Stand is wonderful, hope you like it.
I'm 35 percent in. A long ways to go. While Ted Brautigan's story is interesting, about 80 percent of it could be cut.

Yeah, I was thinking the same when I read it, but I've been thinking that many times while reading the series, and in the end, for me, it usually pays off in one way or another 
The Stand looks great, but it'll have to wait a little longer - reading The Wind Through the Keyhole now, which I'm liking a lot so far.

Yup, not quite ready to leave this series behind yet...
Started looking at the Marvel comics series the other day, and ordered one of the collections. Shipped from the UK the 21st, arrived here the 22nd (!!). It looks fantastic, the drawings are great and the script/dialogue might as well be written by King himself. Looking forward to exploring Roland's past, especially the battle of Jericho Hill. If I like it, I'll probably get the rest of the series as well _________________

These comics are ACE!! If you ever need a Dark Tower fix, but you're not quite in the mood for a re-read, I recommend the comics, bungo. Exceeded any expectations I may have had. Love it

I'm just listening to the audiobook now, can't even bring myself to read it. 45 percent. I'm liking the assault on Blue Heaven, however.

- I wasn't sure if I wanted to read the coda; I really enjoyed the epilogue. The coda was...eh... I didn't hate it as some people do, but I think that specific "twist" is a little old, and this story hasn't been one for "twists" so far.
A similar ending can be seen in The Twilight Zone episode Judgement Night.
The way that I feel is that I didn't care about the Tower. What I was most interested in in this story was ka-tet, most specifically Susannah, Eddie, Jake, and Oy. I was glad that they got the "happy" ending.
But if those characters got an ending, who will Roland draw this time around? Is it always Jake, Eddie, and Susannah? Why does he always get deposited out at that specific moment of time in the desert? Are his life experiences false memories? Is this a punishment for Roland? What would happen if he just killed himself? Et cetera. The ending of the coda raises too many questions, and this story shouldn't leave us with any questions.
Edit: Here's another question I just thought of: does he start over with his missing fingers or does he get those back? Does he begin again with his current handicaps?

I feel that they are two separate things. The epilogue is the end story of the characters I cared about, the coda is the end/recycling of the framework story. As far as I'm concerned Suze, Eddie, and Jake have moved on.

The fight with Mordred was quicker than I thought it would be, and I really wish Oy had gone with Susannah. Jake and Oy were my favorite characters, hands down, and I was a little upset with how they died. But pretty much upset with how they all died. If the deaths had been instant it would have been a little better, but for each of them to suffer and live for a little while after being mortally injured was just heartless.
Not sure what else I have to say or complain about at the moment, but I'm sure once you respond it will bounce some ideas around in my head.
I'm just so glad it's over.

- If most every level of the tower had been about death, I was certain that Roland would reach his death at the top, instead it was the opposite, you got me, sai King.

What I didn't quite understand, is how he could've had the horn of Eld if he didn't start all over again. If he's deposited out in the desert, how could he possibly change events that occured before that? I liked that he had the horn, as it implies he's made a few different choices this time around. I was tempted not to read it, and almost wish I hadn't. But that would have been impossible, and I'm glad I did anyway. I thought Roland would die at the top level, and I think I would have preferred that ending if his death meant that the wolrds would stabilise again or something like that, I don't know. The fact that he has the horn when he has to start it all over again made it alot easier for me to accept, though, maybe there is hope for him after all.

The Crimson King was stupid, as was Patrick Danville. If Patrick could draw things close to make them appear closer, use an eraser to make things disappear, why didn't he draw Susannah a pair of legs and Roland a couple of fingers? I didn't like Danville one bit, to be honest, and that Roland should have to rely on a boy to be able to defeat a crazed old lunatic was worse than seeing Gandalf get his ass kicked by the Witch King in RoTK. I do wonder, though, if King meant the Crimson King to be a joke all along. A man feared across worlds, lord of countless servants and enemy to the line of Eld, but all the same a man very few have ever actually met. However, like many of our fears in life, he turned out to be a complete joke when finally confronted. But I'd lie if I said I weren't disappointed by that old, sneech-throwing crabbit while I was reading. And like I said, Roland should've taken him easy instead of having a kid kill him with an eraser. It was a horrendously lame last fight when compared to all those epic shoot-outs we've seen earlier in the series.

Mordred ruined much of book 7 for me, and almost ruined it entirely when he ate poor Walter. I was never scared or intimidated by Mordred as I think King hoped his readers would be. He was a lousy antagonist, completely lacking in buildup (for lack of a better word), and when, finally, the confrontation came, it was over just like that. Susannah pregnant, Mia, the Dixie Pig - all that not very exciting stuff could've been scrapped if not for the silly invention that was Mordred. I wanted Walter to be there at the end when Roland reached the Tower, wanted to see them have one last palaver followed by a final battle. Walter was enigmatic, dangerous, terrible - a man who could keep the reader's attention fixed when he spoke. Mordred didn't have any of those qualities. Walter is perhaps the most fascinating character I've ever had the pleasure of getting to know through a book, and to see him get eaten by some silly thing like a baby spider that I never cared for one bit was close to infuriating.
Not sure what else I have to say or complain about at the moment, but I'm sure once you respond it will bounce some ideas around in my head.

Yeah, it's been a five year road for me and these books. I know others have had to wait longer between publication dates, but it was still a long time to get through, for me. But I'm glad I read these books, I love the characters and the universes.

I thought the stuff inside the Dixie Pig wasn't bad. Jake and Callahan entering the building was one of my favorite moments from the entire series. At some times I thought King was trying too hard to make Mordred like Gollum or Voldemort, a villain that might be pitied, it didn't really work.
