I do enjoy a good reaction video- and folks in hot countries always seem so, passionate, got to love 'em  Nod (especially when they happen to be cute too  Twisted Evil Also nicely shows Who's capacity to rip your heart out one second and fill you with wonder and joy the very next!)

Every regen (nicely highlights how there was no consistency about regens in classic, its different every time)-

Ah well we Brits Figg are always suspicious of outward shows of emotions- other nationalities, less so it seems.

I like these two lasses drunken reviews too (they do hysterical in every sense Sherlock ones too), but lasses, bevvy and Who- its like someone has been watching my dreams!!

Not sure which part you were refering to Figg, but I would say yes and no.

Doctor Who in the 70s hired high quality actors, but almost exclusively from a theatre background. So the scripts were accordingly played theatrically. Though for the most part very well in my opinion. That might not fit in with the expectations of modern television were this mock realism has become all important, but I'm sure the things will love today will have it's faults picked in 40 years as well.

However, from the little I have seen of 80s Who, I agree it might have moved too far in the amateur dramatic direction.

Blue I meant the OTT reactions of the girl in the video. If she reacts like that to a fictional tv character god knows what would happen if something bad happens to her in real life. she would be a liability in a real crisis. You would probably have to punch her to keep her quiet.

I also thought Capaldi was nothing like Tom Baker. Tom Baker was a fascinating actor to watch, Capaldi not so much. well not in that scene anyway, it rang false to me, and it certainly was not funny.

Reminds me of Leela in Horror of Fang Rock dealing with a hysterical women who spends the episode screaming until Leela deals with her (I love Leela!)- ignore this vids caption, they got the name wrong  Mad

I definitely saw some Bakerism in Capaldi- by a pure coincidence Ive making my way through the 4th Doctor episodes over xmas and it was particularly striking to me.

As to it not being funny- I smiled, more than I did at Tennants "New Teeth! That's weird. So where was I?" or 11's "legs! I've still got legs!"

"Kidneys! New kidneys! I don't like the colour" is for me funnier than either of those two were but very much in the same vein.  Shrugging

Yeah I just watched Horror of Fan Rock the other day so it was fresh in my mind when Figg mentioned over emotional women needing a punch to shut them up (mm, I wonder if a man could have got away with saying that? Nagual happened to be here when I was looking up that clip and it led us to realise that NuWho has many examples of women slapping men but none we could think of where a man slaps a woman, or in fact anyone does- can anyone think of any examples we have missed?).

There are more dodgy or downright poor episodes in classic Who than in modern I would say on balance, but when its good its the equal of the best of modern, but the bad is a lot more bad.
Bakers Doctor however is ( a bit like Smith in my view) the constant- he is never poor, never less than totally committed, never less than believable and always watchable.

What always interested me about HoFR is that it was pretty much a throwaway story from Terrance Dicks, which he still isn't all that proud of to this day. And to me it's one of the best classic Who stories.

Maybe it's because it epitomises all classic Doctor Who could be when everything worked.  Shrugging

As for the Classic Who and New Who comparison I'm not sure I agree. You might have seen more of them than me however. The only post Tom Baker story I've seen is Silver Nemesis which was terrible. Terrible; terrible; terrible. I've found the Tom Baker stories and early Pertwee stories to be of very high quality however.

I'd say they are different television programs made in completely different ears to completely different standards and therefore can't really be objectively compared as far as quality is concerned.

I dont think Clara will have romantic feelings for the Doctor. I expect they will do what Who did in classic ea when there was an older Doctor and young companion- ether get an older female companion too, or get a young leading man type for the companion to play off (not necessarily romantically- in classic Who never in fact) or both.

Regards Clara I actually am beginning to suspect with my recent watching of Baker era, that Moffat is trying to create a new Sarah Jane, there are some interesting (probably) coincidental things about them- if she stays beyond another year I can well see Clara being thought of as 12's companion, not 11's- that ll be Amy.
Sarah Jane was Pertwees last companion, but she is most remembered for her time with Bakers Doctor.
There are also some similarities in how they react to things and situations, how they fill the companion role.

But I think with Clara she will be viewed in the end on her character in relation to 12, not 11.

No a man could not have got away with saying that. As a woman punching another woman is completely different as women have roughly the same upper body strength its a fair fight. The point wasnt if it was right (although if whilst watching TV a woman is screaming hysterically and pointlessly are you saying a male viewer cannot even joke 'she needs a good slap?'), its just that in classic Who men and women get a good slap on about an equal basis.
Whereas the Doctor has had his face slapped in Nuwho, in all incarnations, fairly regularly, but I cant think of any women who have been.

There are mens groups out there for guys abused by their violent females partners who would strongly argue its the same thing.
