Capaldi has picked up an award, not for Who as he hasnt been seen enough in the role yet of course, but for his outstanding contributions.

He picked up the inaugural RTS (Royal Television Scotland Award)-

'acknowledging his outstanding contribution to television. The citation reads The RTS Scotland Award is for the outstanding contribution to television in Scotland and beyond. RTS Scotland is delighted to announce that the recipient of this year’s award is Peter Capaldi. An acclaimed writer, performer and director, Peter has achieved phenomenal success at home and abroad. Original, memorable, engaging and definitive – his contribution to television has been exceptional, and the committee feel he is a worthy and much deserved winner of this inaugural award. ' -Gallifrey Base

Well done to Peter, and I just cant wait till August to see what his Doctor is like  bounce bounce bounce

I was talking with my brother and some of his friends and they are rather miffed that the Who tour doesn't include Scotland only Wales and England, especially given the showrunner is a Scot and so is the lead actor.

It got me wondering why not and I'd guess they dont want to field a lot of independence questions that have nothing to do with Who and want to stay well out of it- but an iconic British show run by a Scot starring a Scot, the press would not leave well enough alone I reckon.

So, sad, but probably the right choice at this time.

'Paul McGann has reported that a sequel to last year's online/red-button anniversary special, The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot has entered production. The actor, who appeared briefly in the original, was speaking at an event for Cambridge Union Society, which also saw "Reboot" co-star Sylvester McCoy speak back in May.'- Gallifrey Base

Good to hear there will be more like the Five-ish Doctors, it was great fun.

Trailer for it-

I am not so sure- I think we are getting something a bit different from Capaldi, at least to start with.

Also the BBC are saying the opening episode is 'feature length'- which for the BBC tends to mean anything from 60 minutes to 90.

Just came across this excellent website, very very useful as a reference point, it's also slighty mind boggling how much expanded media there is for Dr Who:

Yeah its quite the merchandising source for the BBC.

On a smaller scale it always has been. You could buy Dalek playsuits for your kids in the era of the first Doctor.
And it was fans desire to keep it going through merchandising and making their own Who stuff that resulted in things like the Big Finish audios, which kept the show alive when the BBC tried to kill it.

Hadn't seen the first vid there, seen the Rain one before, very nicely done.

And I see the Charles Dance as the Master rumours still persist. Although so far there is no actual evidence he is even in it, or that the Master is returning at all.

Not that Id be opposed to the idea, older Doctor, give him nan older, cunning adversary, it just seems to obvious for Moffat somehow.

There is very limited footage for Capaldi to use at the moment- and most of that is from the Thick of It where he was not exactly a pleasant character!

Some casting news, a casting pic and a welcome increase in something NuWho has struggled with- women at the top behind the scenes in the directing department.

'The BBC has announced that Michelle Gomez will join the cast of Doctor Who,
Spoiler:

'Gomez is best known for her performances in Green Wing, The Book Group, and Bad Education. In 2008 She performed as Kate in Royal Shakespesre Company's production The Taming of the Shrew.
Speaking about the role, Michelle Gomez said: "Well of course Peter Capaldi is our next Doctor, which makes complete sense. I'm thrilled to join him. Well, you would be wouldn't you?"
Lead writer and executive producer, Steven Moffat, added: "I've known Michelle for years, and I'm thrilled to welcome her to Doctor Who. She's everything we need - brilliant, Scottish, and a tiny bit satanic."- Gallifrey Base

And in directing news the series 8 finale is being directed by Rachel Talalay, an American director, best known for her association with the Nightmare on Elm Street films (not sure if that tells us anything) where she started out as assistant production manager on the first film, production manager on the second, line producer on the third, producer on the fourth, and writer/director for Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare.
Her other directing credits include- Ally McBeal, Unfabulous, Terminal City, Whistler, The Wind in the Willows, and Bomb Girls, the remake of Randall & Hopkirk Deceased, Supernatural, Stephen King's Dead Zone, Haven, Continuum, and XIII.
