You are dedicated, I wouldnt watch every episode myself even though I have them all.
There are a lot I do watch, but there's a good few I wouldnt want to watch twice.
In my opinion the surviving 2nd Doctor stories are more consistent in standard than the first, although you may find the length of War Games a problem.

Well the attitude I have is-my mate has them all on DVD, and they are there to watch so why not? (Rest assured I don't think Web Planet will be getting a rewatch)

I can't afford to buy them myself (new at least I don't have the space anyway), nor am I inclined to watch them all in two minute clips on the interweb, in anycase I like to have some knowledge of stuff I post about on this forum.

I may make exceptions (the few brief extracts I have heard of Mcgann's doctor are wonderful that really was a missed oppurtunity) as there is a forbidden planet near me with a very sizeable Big Finish collection.

Hmm, the length might be a problem on some but If it's good them I'm hooked (Once Upon A Time in America and The Thin Red Line are two of my fave films neither are short!-though for some reasons I don't get bored with films as much-more explosions!)

I think for the majority of War Games is justified, there a bit of padding in some episodes but it a good solid story well told, and as its the 2nd Doctors final series its a bit of a must see.

Thanks for the heads up.

I've sometimes got the impression Old Who was kept running for so long simply because the BBC needed to fill up it's schedule with something.

How much of Troughton is there? I know alot is missing

Most is still missing- theres is the Cyberman story, all but one episode of web of fear, the one with his double whose name I cant remember but is oneof the recently found ones and war games.
I have a feeling I missed some- its worth checking wiki before you watch the 2nd doctor to see which stories are complete- nothing worse than watching a really good first part only to find the rest dont exist any more. Mad

You have a lot to look forward to as well. I haven't gotten around to watching anything of the first two doctors yet but I've watched a bit of the early Pertwee episodes and they're really good. Roger Delgado i also excellent playing the Master. Then you have the first couple of years of Tom Baker wich is seen as the pinnacle of the classic series, and are my favourites.

Ah, Bluebottle, Tom "IS" the Doctor for me...but I did settle for Peter Davison and Sylvie McCoy for a while. You have to laugh, when I shook hands with Tom, I almost fainted dead away. I didn't think he was that big - that TALL...heh heh heh.
I too loved Delgado as the Master. He's totally sinister. And what a voice!

All the new Doctors just make me, well, confused! I can't do every ep. Seriously, the thing with River and the Doc being...well...so much more "human" irks me to no end.

At least they paid tribute to John Hurt and gave him a guest appearance as The Doctor. He should have been the Doctor a LONG time ago...he would have raised it to a higher level. (Incidentally, Hurt was also great as The Fool in Lear, opposite Olivier.) Strange coinkidink when you think of McCoy...Wink

I thought it worked with River as she was not just human and the family link through Amy/Rory and the TARDIS too gave her that extra level of personal affection for the Doctor.
It was him knocking off with that 19 year old chav Rose that gave me the heebie jeebies and dint seem to make any sort of sense Id care to think about.

Another Doctor ident break in-

Probably put this up before but worth repeating it for any who may have missed it- the 2013 Doctor Who proms in its entirety (including a live piece by the surviving members of the original Radiophonic workshop, using period equipment).

Mmmm, when the 4th Doctor, Tom Baker dies, a later version of himself has been appearing to him for some time, and eventually 'merges' with his body and he regenerates.
But what struck me was the 4th Doctors final words, "It's the end, but the Moment has been prepared for."

Glad you liked it Mrs Figg.

Im curious what you mean by odd Bungo.
Its certainly different (as all the Moffat era is) in direction and style than the RTD era, if you go from one to the other there is a noticeable difference in all things are being done.
Series 5 was very much a fairytale motif- Beast Below is a good example of that with several fairytale themes from Wendy in her nightie going off with Peter Pan, to the Queen and the dungeon and the monster that's misunderstood.

Well this is based on a memory from seeing the episode just the once three years ago, but I found the whole space whale think really weird, and for the 11th doctors second episode it launched surprisingly quickly into him doing his thing-there wasn't really a breather for the audience to get to know him.

I've been peeking at a few Dr Who Episodes recently. I like Clara. Is she going to be in the new Dr Who series? River Song seems interesting. Should be the Doctor one day, I reckon. Maybe the new Doctor can merge/regenerate with her at the end of his tenure? I think I know what my problem with Doctor Who is. Too clever and melodramatic, not enough pure (old fashioned Whovian) Sci Fi adventure. The basic concept of the regenerating Doctor, and new Assistants coming in and out, are a superbly timeless ideas. The modernistic cleverness (complicated plotting) is a tad boring. Give me solid interesting characters and stories that make you care about them.  Shrugging

I haven't seen Logopolis yet, though I have seen the regenration scene. From what I heard it's quite good? So that's something to look forward to.

Wasn't there talk of Tom Baker beeing cast in some role in the Lord of the Rings as well? I think he said in an interview he turned it down when they asked him if he was ready to move to New Zealand for 3 years. I always wondered which role that was. Radagast perhaps?

Orwell, Clara is the current companion and as far as we know will be staying on as the companion when Capaldi takes over.

Going on your criteria Orwell for what makes a good episode I would recommend of Nuwho looking out the following episodes-

9th Doctor-

Fathers Day
Dalek
The Empty Child/Doctor Dances

10th Doctor-

School Reunion (purely for nostalgia as Sarah Jane returns in it, and I know you are fan of hers)
The Girl in the Fireplace
Human Nature/Family of Blood
Blink
The Fires of Pompeii
Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead
Midnight
Turn Left
The Waters of Mars

11th Doctor-

The 11th Hour- it sets up all the main characters and a lot of stuff thats later referenced.
The Beast Below
The Vampires of Venice
Amy's Choice
A Christmas Carol
The Doctor's Wife
Night Terrors
The Girl Who Waited
The God Complex
Asylum of the Daleks
A Town Called Mercy
The Bells of St John
The Rings of Akheten
Cold War
Hide
The Crimson Horror
The Name of the Doctor

Plenty to be getting on with! Very Happy
