As for Capaldi being dark or not, I got the impression from that 2 second glimpse of him in TDOTD that his face was glowering angry into the screen, he looked kind of scary and not exactly the easy going type, could be wrong. As to Clara I agree about the faux mystery girl thing, its as if the plot device is more important than her actual character development, she looks like a bland stop-gap after all the assistants who stole the show from the Doctor recently. I would really like to see a really strange quirky assistant maybe a steampunk or something like that.

On the plus side the Doctor didnt spend the last twenty minutes of the episode just saying goodbye to people.

I thought the end was very moving, Jenna put in one of her best Clara performances there I'd say, and Matt was brilliant throughout, that speech at the end was very moving.

And answers!

That was a very odd episode! I enjoyed it, but it was not really what I was expecting.

Smith and Coleman were wonderful, the ep has nice pace and one liners...BUT...er where the hell does the whole Doctors Timeline entombed on Trenzalore fit in?

And the regeneration was kinda sudden-good and bad at the same time. Shame Capaldi didn't get a memorable start off.

Moffat should get an award for 'Most ironic use of a Turkey' because thats what it was, a big fat gooey sentimental EastEnders Turkey. Its the kind of Turkey that days afterwards you are forced to eat in sandwiches otherwise it stinks the kitchen. and like all good Turkeys it was stuffed full of the usual boring suspects, from Stone Angels to god bless us every one Tiny Timmy pining for the Doc. Mofat is using the dregs and the giblets to cobble together a remarkably underwhelming end. Bah Humbug!

You dont usually get much of the new Doctor in regens- Smith got to kiss his knees and declare he was crashing.
Tennant was even worse- he got to remark about new teeth and then he was unconscious.

We got a little more Capaldi than is actually usual.

As to Tenzalore-
Spoiler:

Nice to see you were as happy as ever over an epiosde Mrs Figg.
I dont think it was the best episode ever, but it had some particularly good moments in it.
And every xmas episode of NuWho is over sentimental- what about Kylie dying in the most sentimentally barren way possible in the ludicrous 10 xmas episode set aboard a space version of the Titanic? Or the poor children forced to labour for the cybermen in victorian london?
Accusing a xmas Who episode of being gooey is like accusing xmas cake of being fattening.

Petty I guess that makes sense, Doctor Who is a inconsistent gooey mess anyway, I wasn't expecting much so I wasn't dissapointed.

Ive never been the biggest fan of the xmas episodes because they have to perform a different role than the series episodes.
I dont think I enjoyed any of the RTD era xmas episodes and only A Christmas Carol stands out for me in Moffat era- and its just a good xmas episode, as oppose to a great episode in general.

I think after 10's long drawn out departure Moffat took the decision to keep this episode moving and to make the actual regen moment quick.

But the impression I am most left with is how much Matt looked liked Hartnell's 1st Doctor as the old Doctor.

Any thoughts on Capaldi? My only thoughts thus far are 'Why are people complaining about his performance, when he shot his split second cameo months before his character had even received his first script or his character had been worked out?'

got to say Capaldi was a bit underwhelming, why cant he fly the TARDIS? he's only been doing it 900 years.  No I didnt expect him to be a ditherer, I was hoping for a stronger Doctor.

Have a mince pie and some sherry Figg.  pub

Malick- I had no idea people were complaining already- thats Whovians for you- not sure what about, only thing I would complain about is the music is too loud over the dialogue, but thats a production issue not an actor one.
He actually plays it much like I thought he might. Its intense but its not frightening like Tucker was as a character its quite engaging, reminds me a bit of Hartnell that way. And good to hear he is keeping his scottish accent. First time since 7.

But I agree its way to early given its a few lines- I didnt find Matts first lines particularly impressive and he is now one of my all time favourite Doctors.

Mrs Figg- regen amnesia is common- its effected about half of all the Doctors regens.

I dont think I am going to like this new Doctor at all. Just as I was getting used to Matt Smith.
