The whole thing is worth glancing through.  It's largely observations about parts of the story that have been actioned-up.  I'm not sure if I agree that Gandalf vs. Thrain is supposed to be a flashback.  Given that they brought back Azog and they're taking the name of "The Necromancer" quite literally, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Thrain fight happens during the same timeframe as the rest of the film.

Well if I hadnt seen the first film I would say Thrain was a zombie because a living person couldnt leap from that high and survive the fall, but I have seen the first film so who knows any more.

Back when the first trailer came out we did a lot of speculating about who the zombie Dwarf might be (since he was supposed to be in the first of two films at that point) and I'm still pretty sure it's Thrain. I figured I'd repost the image I made back then.

I cant see who else it could be but Thrain.

I think it's gotta be Thrain, but the question is, will it necessarily make the final edit?

We know from LotR that PJ shoots many scenes that later end up on the cutting room floor, and that he'll probably be editing right up until a week or two before the release date.

Just because something made it into the trailer doesn't guarantee it will make the final cut, especially if it's an side story or flashback and they're trying to bring a convoluted story in under 3 hours.

That's very true (I remember The Last Airbender, which I just rewatched the other day, cut a lot of stuff that had appeared in trailers), but I suspect PJ will be throwing in everything that he can since he's been given an extra three hours of movie to work with.  He's said that he'll be done with Middle-earth after this trilogy (though he could conceivably change his mind), so I think he'll include as much as possible before the opportunity is over and gone forever.

True, but they've got to hold some material back from the theatrical edit for the EE's so the studio can get the extra sales bump.  I'm hoping they come up with a dragon that's so charismatic on screen that a bunch of the White Council stuff gets left out. If I'm going to watch stuff that's not explicitly in the book, I'd rather watch Smaug destroy Dale.

Good point about the EE. I was actually surprised by how little Necromancer/White Council stuff was in AUJ, so I figured they were saving it for DOS, but maybe it's meant for the extended cuts.

We know Weta is up to the task. In the EE appendices you can see their CGI test of the cave troll minus its loincloth. Said test is NSFW, naturally.
