They point out that when GDT left the project he stated that he would continue to be involved in the writing process. I feel like this was probably a token acknowledgement, however. PJ has already acknowledged that most of the design work done until del Toro was later redesigned, and I wouldn't be surprised if in the process of expanding the series into a trilogy a lot of del Toro's script contributions were rewritten.

In case anyone needs a refresher: GDT retained a screenwriting credit on "An Unexpected Journey" despite leaving the production before filming began. Interestingly, there was a similar situation on LOTR where early PJ collaborator Stephen Sinclair was brought on to the project early on but left before filming or (IIRC) the films were expanded from two to three. Subsequently much of his work was rewritten, but he was given a writing credit on one of the films (The Two Towers) in acknowledgement of his contributions.

TORn has had a love affair with del Toro going back to when he posted on their forums so I'm not surprised that they're bothered by this.  Criticism of del Toro is -- or used to be -- a major taboo there.

GDT is really cool, he actually used to post a lot on TORn, how great is that? PJ never did, shows you what kind of guys they are.

There were a bunch of rules about what people were allowed to say/ask him though, and the mods were even touchier than usual. After GDT stepped down TORn held a wake for him and a few people were almost banned for not showing proper respect (because they were speculating about who would replace him).
