I think its a con & a sham to give a gong to someone who plays around with graphics, presses buttons & downloads stuff, & then say...An award goes to best design or whatever.. An award should go to REAL make up & inventiveness NOT to anything digital ! It all looked like an upgraded attempt by the producers of "Wallace & Gromit" to me, The Goblins, Orcs etc looked theyde been made from the left over plasticene from Ray HarryHausen, (only cos Nick Park wouldnt let PJ have any!)

Animation award instead for films that more than 50% cgi?
Might be a good idea.

gotto disagree there. cgi is an art form, just like any designing. just because its electronic doesnt make it second class.

Doesnt have to be seen as second class- only that it is more animation than it is film.
No real difference between creating and animating a million goblins and the goblin cave sets than there is making a bit of Toy Story- thats cgi too, but is still in the animation category.

I think Petty should have carried a barrel of buckie to NZ and had a few rounds with PJ , after the barrel was empty and PJ was in-capacitated , Petty should have stuffed him in the empty barrel and shipped him off to Timbuktoo. Then petty could have disguised himself as PJ and done the Blickin movie the right way.Just a thought .

The Hobbit is a glorious film - beautifully filmed, adapted and acted.  Typical of the so called 'artistic intelligensia' here in Forumshire with their snobbery to turn their noses up at it.  Wink

Oh, so long as you forget it's based in this classic book called "The Hobbit", it's not so bad.
