Fox News has Obama up 79-71 but they seem to be jumping the gun in calling several states. NBC has Romney up 82-64 but they're also pretty early in their calls.

The one down side to BBC news- no ads meands more air time and sometimes more padding- going to reporters in America who dont actually have anything new to report.

True. I actually got annoyed with the presenters too and am taking a break from watching TV streams for the sake of my brain cells.

About half the networks are now calling a wide swathe of the South for Romney which brings him to ~80 electoral votes. These are all safe states but it seems the other networks are playing it safe with their predictions for now. See the comparison for yourself here:

Of course the BBC coverage is noticably different from when they cover our own elections- as they have a lot more outside broadcast stuff and regional studios to go to, which breaks things up a bit.

ABC on here:

Connecticut called for Obama, 64 total electoral votes. This has been confirmed elsewhere too.

Tennessee for Romney, unsurprising there.

EDIT: New Jersey = Obama; Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama = Romney

Gave Arkansas to Romney and now I think I finally have the count in the OP correct. Romney up 88-78 so far. No major surprises or swing states decided yet.

Random question: Is Don't Tell The Bride a BBC program? Because I may switch to that. Assuming it's on, obviously.

Bunch more states coming in at 9:00 right now, but as has been the case so far the toss-ups probably will take a while to be reported. Speaking of which, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Florida are leaning Obama so far while Virginia and North Carolina are leaning Romney

BBC playing it safe with their predictions, understandably. I updated the OP with a bunch of calls from other places, mainly ABC. Still no surprises so far.

Its jumped a lot! Now 123-153 to Romney

ABC is now saying the Republicans will retain control of the House with approximately the same number of seats they currently have.

Dammit, I have no chocolate in the house. Need something to get me though the next few hours.

PENNSYLVANIA BEING CALLED FOR OBAMA!

First big news of the night. It's not quite over yet but PA gives Obama a crucial cushion while the results from the biggest swing states come in.

Yeah, I don't use that emoticon very much for a reason.

Now that PA is called, Obama doesn't even have to win Florida. If he wins either that, OR Virginia, OR Ohio, it's basically done. Romney needs to win all three to have a chance of victory.

I so hope Obama wins- if only so I can spend the next week laughing myself sick watching Fox News deal with it.
