ABC is predicting Obama will win Florida based on the counties that have not reported yet.

Yeah, a lot of the predictions I'm looking at are shifting towards Obama. My understanding is that the Democratic urban areas, especially Miami, are still counting the votes.

Virginia not looking too good for Obama, though. Surprisingly he's doing better in North Carolina, which has more electoral votes but most people (including me) had considered safe for Romney.

If you mean those 3 little boxes that where the Roswell Aliens live in secret bases- theyve been there so long they qualify for the vote.

The boxes are because Maine and Nebraska both have special systems that can result in a split electoral vote total. This has only happened once (in 2008) but if one both candidates were to win votes from the same state then at least one box would be colored differently.

Also, Elizabeth Warren defeated Scott Brown in the Massachusetts Senate race.

The Yahoo map confuses me: they call states that only have a few percent of the vote in, and leave states with 70% of the vote and a wide margin as unknown.

They make calls based on a combination of exit polls and past precedent as well as the reporting precincts. If a race is close or a state is typically hard to say which way a state will go they'll wait until almost all the results are in, but a state which is traditionally goes a certain way they'll call it as soon as the polls close.

I would say that I hope Romney's impending defeat convinces the Republican Party that they need to move away from the far fringe of the party, but I had the same hope after McCain's loss in 2008 and look what happened.
