I think if you're too on-the-nose about it, it's hard for the thread to just naturally (but totally) shift gears, which is the essence of Norcing.

I really wouldn't worry about it this much though. It shouldn't be taken so seriously.

Yep, Norcing means everyone joins in and the whole thread and everyone on it veers wildly off topic. The Yooper incident was a spamathon, not a norcing. The way you get everyone to join in is you start on a related and very interesting topic, so that people feel it's still part of the conversation. It's only later they realize they are all off topic.
