Re: Favourite computer games of all time.
My brother got it- big Halo fan from the start- he completed the campaign in under 5 hours- and is full of complaints about the multiplayer- especially how unblanaced it is.
Im not a huge Halo fan and havent played 4 so I cant comment personnanly on it beyond the opeing level which I watched him play- it was full of pretty but preset 'events' and so linear you could almost see the rails you were on- and I hate that so not for me I think.

Re: Favourite computer games of all time.
Seeing as you're more of a open world guy, you're probably right. Most shooters (especially nowadays) tend to be fairly linear in their campaigns. For the Halo series the most nonlinear game would probably be the original, or ODST, where it had one level that was open world that you accessed all the other levels from. If there would be a halo game you liked, it'd be ODST.
As for 4's multiplayer, I rather liked it but I've only played about three hours thus far so my opinion is not complete.
Star Wars battlefront was a very good nonlinear shooter, just thought I'd throw that out there.

Re: Favourite computer games of all time.
Damn, that looks really fantastic. I'll have to see if my brother is interested since he's more of a gamer than me and maybe we could get it together.
Loved the music.

Re: Favourite computer games of all time.
Maybe this will lure Ringdrotten back, too. He was a big fan of GTA: Vice City, wasn't he?
Re: Favourite computer games of all time.
I hope it does- I miss our defender of Forumshire! (although he as popped in when he can).
I am loving the seeming 'idea' behind this latest GTA- the have and have nots reflecting our society of ever increasing gap between the two (summed up in the title sequence shot- with the wealthy and the skyscrapers high and distant in the background- the middle off to work on the over pass- and the poor beneath along the train tracks)
And that final shot of the three main characters together- see no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil. Genius.
I f***ing love Rockstar North (and not just becuase they are the original Scottish devision of Rockstar -formely DMA Design responsible for the Lemmings games of all things!)

Re: Favourite computer games of all time.
The music really is great. I've been listening to Stevie Wonder since I watched the trailer.
Re: Favourite computer games of all time.
Also that particular song is about corruption, deception ect- nothing in a GTA trailer is a coincidence- Dan Howser- head of Rockstar says the three main characters represent attitudes to acquiring the mighty dollar- ambition, greed, and insanity!
The radio stations in GTA are always superb- not just for music but for comedy too. A highlight of the games for me.

Has a GTA game ever had multiple main characters before? - Eldo
Not exactly- not in the same game anyway. In GTA 4 you played Nico- an immigrant from an unnamed east european country- but in the two dlcs you played the second in command of a Biker Gang, Johnny, and in the Ballad of Gay Tony you played Luis, the bodyguard to Liberty Cities premiere Nightclub owner- Gay Tony.
But this is the first time there have been more than one main charcater in the main game.
And lets not forget Weazel News

Really? Why? Ok missions can be quite linear- although there is usually some wiggle room in how you go about doing them, and the narrrative is always strong- everything else is open world freedom and joy. And the games sense of humour and sharp satire are all appealing to me.
That and Ive been playing since the original way back on my amiga!
Which reminds me of an oddity of the GTA series- this next one is officially GTA5 but I have played-
GTA. GTA: London (the only 'real' world setting ever). GTA2. GTA3. GTA Vice City. GTA San Andreas. GTA China Town. GTA LIberty City Stories. GTA Vice City Stories. GTA 4. GTA Lost and the Damned. GTA Ballad of Gay Tony.
Which by my reckoning means we are actually onto GTA 13! Even if you exclude 'expansions' and put London, China town, liberty city/vice city stories, gay tony and lost and the damned in there that still means the next one should be GTA 7!
I never got a chance to play Bully- which is a shame as the premise reminded me of a great little game from the days of the zx spectrum- skool daze and its sequal Back to Skool.

Re: Favourite computer games of all time.
Oh gosh... Sims2, the whole SimCity series, ES: Oblivion and Skyrim, Battlefield 1942 (grenades were badass), Bioshock...a few others. Of older games I did like MDK - really good shooter with puzzles and cool environments.
I also have a soft spot for Runescape - it had an excellent simulation of supply and demand economics before they created a universal item exchange and regulated the market. Only RPG I've found where you could make a tonne of gold just trading.
Btw I can't wait for the Skyrim Middle-Earth (unofficial) mod - they have a working Sting, fighting on horseback, amazing landscaping so far and a whole heap of other awesome stuff. Will be the closest I get to living in Middle-Earth...
