Thanks Petty, I did work hard but I enjoyed what I was doing so it wasn't that hard really. The trick is to pick a subject that can obsess you for a year, but that's where the OCD is my friend.

Nah, presenting your work should be something to look forward to - you are the expert for once. And you are creative so that your insights may well be novel. But they'll hammer any speculation that isn't carefully labelled as such, and expect them to ask for a decent amount of revision. That's just what they do.

I'm with Halfwise here, you'll be the expert on your topic and you'll know your subject better than them. The important part is that you find a way to communicate your work well. They might pick fault at small things and probably focus on how your tesis fits in with the general theory of the field, because that is, as Halfwise says, their role. If you have control on both the general and specific, there is little they can fault you on.

Trouble is one of the external examiners IS an expert in my field, and I am a very nervous person when I have to speak in front of a panel. I hates it bigly, but I have to do it, so its grin and bear it I guess. Luckily you can do a test viva where your supervisor asks you the kind of searching tricksy questions the examiner will normally ask.

I babble when I first open my mouth. Blab & stutter, but, when I hit the right word I can speed off in a rate of knots Talking to people helps me, a in, going into shops, getting my change & then opening up with a dialogue that demands all must listen ! Now, if someone walks past wearing something I like I ask, or a perfume that's nice, I ask. It helps build up my throat strangling shyness & awkwardness

I think lawyers are trained out of their fear by practice, just like an old teacher like me was. Once you get to that point via experience you're fine; otherwise nothing but natural bone-headed self confidence will get you through it without tremors. The good thing is, anyone can get past it with enough experience. If possible to set up a practice round with a couple invited guests then I highly recommend it. Actually two practice rounds if you can.

me too. I blather and waffle and sometimes I talk an I can hear the incoherent rubbish I am saying and its quite embarrassing. But only when I have to speak in front of more than one person. One on One and I am ok. I have only had 3 interviews in my life where I have come out and thought, yep, nailed it. and I did nail it. but that's out of hundreds.

Aah, I'm so glad casinos aren't allowed in Norway - I'd be sitting at the tables all day. So much fun! 1,3k in one hand, you play high-stake cash games?
