what do you call a story which is based on fact but has been mythologized? something that has a broad basis in truth but has been glamourized? is there a word to describe it, cant think.

{{Yeah I'd go with legend too
Legend- a traditional story sometimes popularly regarded as historical but not authenticated.
Although 'myth' is often used as well- for example the mythologising of Alexander the Great which saw a definite non-supernatural historical figure turned into a God- or in more current times the mythologising of Prince Philip- who is definitely not a god, but is nevertheless worshipped as one on a small Pacific island. }}

Re: Just...................whatever [8]
yep either of those is good, but myths and legends are often not based on real people, whereas I was thinking of something that actually factually happened, but was later um....glorified and made semi-religious.

{{Well Alexander the great factually happened and he was mythologised into a god later in countries he had conquered- so that fits what you want }}

Re: Just...................whatever [8]
I suppose "mythologized" actually exists whereas "legendfied" exists only as a myth.

Re: Just...................whatever [8]
got a question for computer buffs. Ages ago I saved an image I found on th'internet. But I didn't write down where I found it, or who its by. I know if you find it on Wikipedia you can just click on the image and it gives you all the information like who photographed it, the date of the photo, subject, which is great, but for other photos how do you find out who took the picture, and when? not who has used it, because sometimes hundreds of people have used it, I need to know its source. and how do you find the URL?

Re: Just...................whatever [8]
I know google does something with images, but you need a youngster to explain it to you. I don't know how to search for an image. Type in "google images" and see if something useful pops up.

Re: Just...................whatever [8]
{{This is just an odd thing that's puzzling me came up in conversation with someone today. We were discussing Masonry, of which they were a member and they were absolutely convinced that Masonry had begun in England (they were English themselves) and declared that the internet would back them up.
I of course was quite happy to see this back up knowing full well there were Lodges in Scotland long before England.
But no, normally at least semi reliable internet sources were saying much the same thing- the first Lodge was in London established in 1717, with Ireland and Scotland following suit in the next couple of years.
Thing is evidence for Lodges existing before that time in Scotland arent obscure, they are not semi-lost in the mists of some history- you can go visit and look at them! The original, the real no1 Lodge is still a lodge today. Its located at 19 Hill St, Mary's Chapel, Edinburgh and its title is The Lodge of Edinburgh Mary's Chapel No.1. And its records date back to 1599, more than a hundred years before the so called No1 Lodge in London.
What puzzles me is this is a case of something being mistaken then the mistake just repeated so often people forgot it was a mistake? Is it some attempt for some reason to cover up Masonry's Scottish roots (and if so it's not a very good cover up given the evidence still physically stands and there are full records!).
Its just a bit odd.Any thoughts? }}
