My regression is predicting Winds of Winter book in April of this year, but there's several months error bars on that. Nonetheless, I expect it in April.

I was wondering why Dany had semi-short hair, then remembered the actress bleached her own hair recently.

Funny, just as I was typing "Who are the two giggling women beside Peter Dinklage?" the narrator mentions who the giggling women are beside Peter Dinklage.

Kind of annoying to have 2 minutes of interview and 7 minutes of interpretation of the interviews, huh?

One of the advantages of having to wait until Game of Thrones comes out on netflix is that you get all the commentary.    There was a group of voices admiring how Maizie Williams had grown into her role of Arya, and Gwendolyn Christie made the comment "She has really come to embody the phrase 'Bitch ain't got no chill.' "

I thought it was a hysterical way to praise another actor.

I used to be very disappointed with Christie and her freaky-giggly persona in interviews.  But I think between GoT and Star Wars she has grown as well, and has become a very listenable personality.  Another great phrase of hers is "People have become very open about their disdain for the amount of time they've had to wait for season 7."

We won't get Winds of Winter until the first volume of Fire and Blood comes out. So likely not 2018.

I do look forward to reading Fire and Blood at some point. GRRM's historical novellas have been really interesting, although I haven't read Sons of the Dragon yet.

I don't know, to me the salient point of the article seems entirely conjecture. Shrugging

In other words, Martin is currently focused on finishing Volume 1 of Fire and Blood in 2018, so he can then go back to Winds of Winter, then continue on to Volume 2 after that's done. (Probably in sometime in the year 2049.)

Nowhere in the phrases:

"FIRE & BLOOD is planned."

"The first volume should be completed soon. The second is hardly begun."

"Yes, most of FIRE & BLOOD consists of the 'sidebars' I originally wrote for THE WORLD OF ICE & FIRE. Abridged versions of some of those pieces appeared as "The Princess and the Queen," "The Rogue Prince," and "The Sons of the Dragon," but these are the full versions, together with some chapters that have never appeared anywhere."

"F&B will be in two volumes. Vol 1 before, vol 2 after."

does it say anything of the kind. Shrugging

By Martin's timescale, "completed soon" could very well mean Fire and Blood Vol. 1 doesn't see the light of day until 2019, much less TWOW. Pokey Tongue

I take your point though. Wink

Yeah, I have given up on any semblance of time scale. Razz And as I often used to listen to the audiobooks of Dutrice while out and about doing other things, the next one will in any case be a different experience.

Actually, I just remember that GRRM announced just this release scheduel on his blog a while ago, so this isn't actually news. What he said, as far as my memory goes, is that he would release this background book first, and then maybe also Winds in 2018. His words only confirms the release of the first one in 2018 though.

So since I don't get cable and don't like watching things online I had to wait until season 7 came out on Netflix DVD.

Did anyone notice that by the end of the season EVERY major house was headed by a woman? I didn't notice it until it was pointed out in the commentary. The characters never mention it. The closest we come is when John Snow is asking Tormund to help him catch a white walker, and Tormund replies "how many queens do we have to convince?"; and even then I didn't realize it was more than 2. Nobody was making a big deal out of it.

I wonder what Blue's favorite snark site makes of this? How do they spin this to make it look like the GoT show hates women? Or are they playing dead?

Oof. That's one hell of a strawman.

Edit to not just be pure snark: over the course of our GOT/ASOIAF threads here I've disagreed with a number of arguments put forth by the crew at (they apparently now use the name) The Fandomentals, but they've been pretty straightforward about their perspective towards the show in general and on the issue you raise in particular.

Oh lord, they are now applying the snark to everything - movies, books, comics, what have you. I can't even wade through it to find if they have any comments on season 7.

I gave up on the season 6 editorials when I saw them double-talking again, where (almost) anything Martin writes is inherently good, and anything D&D does, even if it looks the same, is inherently bad. My eyes wear out the rolling muscles and I have to quit.

They have a lot of different authors now but their articles on LOTR were quite good and while it's been a couple years since I followed along with it I was pleased to see that series is still ongoing. Smile

This is the best profile of GRR Martin and his works that I've seen, mainly in his own words.

Years ago on here I claimed that the difference between Tolkien and Martin is that Martin has no deep themes while Tolkien does. But here I think Martin outlined his theme in a fantastic statement. To paraphrase "I think the battle between good and evil is a fantastic theme for fiction, but the battle doesn't occur between good looking heros and hideous villains; it happens within each character's heart. That's what I try to show."

Now that I watched last season I went back and looked at this.  Except for the need to hire an actor to do his narration I think this guy got it right.  The stories weren't so compelling even as we get some anticipated payoffs.  But I still really enjoyed watching it.  I guess I'm not the type who goes from love to hate simply for the sake of being pissed off for not being in love anymore.

It looked great. The acting was good as ever. There were some unexpected plot twists. It did what it needed to do. But it wasn't as riveting because we knew Jon Snow would always survive, that Samwell would make important discoveries, that Arya is now invincible. We didn't worry about character's fates the way we used to.
