The 'Meaning in the Music' Game
Thought of a little game as I was driving home earlier today. Basically, the idea is for people to post pieces of music that were composed to represent something. That could be a theme, a character, a place but where the aspects of those things are represented through that music.
The object of the game is for listeners to listen to each piece, try to understand what the music is attempting to portray and then make your try to explain that. After a few people have guessed that the original poster can reveal all.
I would imagine that the majority of what people post will come from an outside source e.g. YouTube and that there will likely be a title attached. I ask that if you are going to take part in the guessing that you do not look up what the music is actually in relation to and just post that. Please play in the spirit or not at all.
I will start with two examples for the game that I play called Destiny.
The first piece is the theme for one of the expansions to the game. What sort of things would you think this expansion is about based on the music? (I would suggest listening to the whole thing as it changes up a bit)
The second is with regards to a race (species) within the game. What kind of species do you think they are? (You can get away with about half of this one as the theme is recurring)
Hope this is something people would enjoy giving a shot at both guessing and posting their own.

I've got a general idea for the first one, but couldn't even fathom a guess on the second one.

Bungo - just in case my question wasnt clear, I dont mean do they have 6 legs and coloured purple. More what sort of traits do you think they exhibit? What kind of culture do you think it might be?
Re: The 'Meaning in the Music' Game
That's extremely impressive music for a game!
You expect something written on and performed by a computer, not a full orchestra and choir. And it's not just boilerplate thematic music either. Much impressed.
On the first one I get the impression of a journey through a grandiose landscape, with some chase/escape themes involved.
On the second, the creatures would be slow moving based on the slow opening motif. I suggest water creatures?

Lance.. I hear sadness at first, as tho much is lost, then anger & determination, next comes strength & vengeance, A rallying of men, plans being made, scores settled, action being taken, strategy's set, That's how I heard the 1st vid............ was I meant to guess something ?
2nd vid ? Loss, memories, revenge, a mans stand alone against his foe.
Dam good music in both vids !!

Az - that is the sort of response I was looking for. You obviously can't get the specifics as there is no way that you could do. I will reveal all when some others have had a bit of time.
Halfy - The sounds design in the game is amazing, both music and all the other sounds. I will probably use some more from here and other games if people like this thread.

Maybe they're very aggressive? Could also be more skulking and conniving.

I think they are a race with a troubled past, either one of hardship or of questionable origins.
Perhaps their sense of morality is somewhat suspect?

Re: The 'Meaning in the Music' Game
Sorry! I have been busy.
Ok... so the closest on the first one was Azriel
The latest expansion tells some of the story of a group of people called the Iron Lords. After the fall of humanity there were various warlords terrorizing what was left of civilization and these guys stopped it and helped unite and protect what was left. They also were at the forefront of many pivitol battles in the years after.
The sadness comes in where they were trying to find some advanced technology to help people rebuild but unleashed a technological plague. Of the hundreds of Iron Lords that there once were, only 2 survived. It turns out much was in vain as this threat re-emerges and you as a player have to follow in their footsteps but end the threat for good.
Trailer below which gives the basic premise.

Re: The 'Meaning in the Music' Game
For the second:
This is the theme for a race called the Cabal. A highly militaristic race that are known for slamming moons in to planets just to get them out of the way. Their legions are highly influenced by Roman history, with units such as legionaries, phalanxes and centurions.
A campaign for the Cabal involves fighting units being exiled from the empire which can only be reversed via a successful conquest.
Highly aggressive and physically, big and brutish.

Re: The 'Meaning in the Music' Game
I wonder if you could listen to these now and hear some more of those elements. I picked those 2 because I think they very much portray the themes that the character and lore of both represent.
I have others I can go with but feel free to post your own too... if people enjoyed this.

Re: The 'Meaning in the Music' Game
Ok... been a little while but I have another.
From the same game.. listen to the end.
This is setting up a specific character from the game. What thoughts does it bring to mind? Would you like to meet it/him/her?
