{{ That a good old fashioned outdoor bog? If so I approve Forest, outdoors, as nature intended where you can let loose the buckie and curry diet in peace, not quite as good as a large well tilled field, but still good }}}

Awh, an outside John that takes me back to some fond memories. wellies on & nipping very quickly outside, torch in hand. That instant squeal as bum hits freezing cold loo seat, time to contemplate what to do today, reading the Witches Gazette before its torn and---- you know. Thanking God the over head cistern didn't come crashing down as you pull the clanking chain of doom Crunch, crunch crunch thru the snow & home, or, slop slop slop in the wet mud....& home, OR, thump thump thump if its a dry night

Re: The Great Cabin Erection!
I knew someone would think it looked like an outhouse. There's a bathroom inside the cabin though, this is just to hold the pump and water-heater set-up, and some tools. I'm planning on putting a passive solar water heater in the roof too.
I did grow up with an outhouse for several years. The worst was going out at night with just a candle, and thinking back to the latest horror movie you've seen...

And now there was nothing but the roofs of houses, sweeping along like a great torrent of stones and rocks. Chimney-pots fell, and tiles flew from the roofs..."

A freezing cold night is when you want a wooden rather than a porcelain seat.

ugg outside loos. The last time I used one was up a mountain in Spain. The light attracted huge buzzing flapping insects which flew round my head like the moons of Uranus.

Look at this bourgeois over here with electric light in her outhouse!
Anyway, no outhouses over here, it's a pump-room and storage-shed.
Yesterday I finished carving the fascia for the side facing my house.
Here it is perched on a board leant up against the building:

I had some wood in my hand today. Held it firm & applied several strokes, it was very satisfying !

Ah nice, sometimes your wood needs a little care to keep it attractive on the eyes. No one will want to handle it if it's all weathered: they'd be likely to get a splinter!
The shelves are in upstairs, and I've started painting up there.
Meanwhile the bathroom is ready for tile, which I'm going to start on once I sand and paint the walls and ceiling.
I have this blue hexagonal tile I'm using on the floor. I was gonna go with green, but the rest of the interior is getting some greens, so I figured it's best to have a different theme in the bathroom.

Re: The Great Cabin Erection!
The tile is from Spain, funny how we have to get tile from Spain over here. I mean, it's an awfully long way for such a heavy product.

lovely blue tiles Forest, blue tiles like that go back to the medieval period in Spain and Portugal, they are called Azulejos, so they have a long and noble history.

Re: The Great Cabin Erection!
I just spent a long and noble morning and afternoon tiling the floor with them and now I have a long and noble sore back
That's cool though, thanks for the history.
The red paint is a kind of water-proof acrylic thingy called Redgard. It goes over the cement-board mostly as a redundancy. Although in the alcoves and around the curb it is quite necessary. Makes the shower look like a crime scene!

At my advanced age I didn't expect an erection to still be such a learning experience.

Re: The Great Cabin Erection!
The erection has a final price tag!
Approximately $44,200 all things included. This is materials of course. Add on to that 6 years of a weekend here and there, days off, some afternoons, and you have the finished product! Unfortunately I don't have any new pictures at the moment, but I'll try and take a video at some point here and upload it for everyone.

Re: The Great Cabin Erection!
Yes we'll want to see!
And it's good to have a fair price tag on materials to put in perspective the base costs for such a building. Somehow I thought it would be about half that, which shows how little I know. I'm assuming there's no cooling system, and heat is via stove?
