Though I like the gandalf vid, it drives me a bit crazy that the narrator pronounces the name OHlorin, instead of the clearly marked oLO'rin. Why does he miss the clearly marked accent on the second syllable, yet pronounce mithRANdir instead of MITHrandir? I think he's got them mixed up.

Maybe you know this, but the acute accent in Olórin is a long vowel marker -- and since long vowels in the penultimate syllable attract primary stress, this example should be olOrin, as you say.

He's got mithrAndir correct. Here the vowel in the penultimate syllable is followed by two consonants -- watch out for Sindarin dh, th, ch, however, as these sounds are represented by single letters in the "original" scripts, and thus count as single letters when considering stress: example dEnethor  . . .

. . .  or to borrow an Old English character (for the -th- sound here), Deneþor.

How could I not have realized through all this time that Ithilien was named after Minas Ithil?!

Isildur is a "Moon-name" too. Just sayin'.

Ah, things begin to fit together. But why is the first son the moon and the second son the sun?

I wonder if they had actors for the readings, or cribbed it from some audio book? They were quite good (though Gandalf's voice did not have enough depth).

That was good. I hadn't remembered much of Cirdan's early life, probably because of the name change, so you don't know who you are reading about.
