{{ There a scene right before the elves travesty I actually like- starts at 2.54-

Then they totally undermine it all and shit all over it for the sake of a nonsensical cheap crowd pleasing elves moment Mad Then they have to contrive ways to get rid of every single elf to explain their absence afterwards. And oddly none of them like legolas seem as over the top capable as him- surfing stairs on shields shooting arrow, single handedly leaping about and taking down Mumakil. If they were theyd have won the whole battle themselves. Its all so stupid Mad And for what? A cheap cheer and because they wanted a 'name' to kill? }}

They also wanted to pay service to the idea that the elves were fighting battles elsewhere in middle earth, they weren't just sitting this out. I actually have more of problem with Aragorn lecturing elves about how the orcs will show them no mercy. Um...they've been around way longer than you have, you doof.

{{ If they just wanted to do that they could have put it into the terrible 'telepathic' conversation in TT with Galadriel where they use Faramirs map (which is suspiciously like Bilbos- is there a ME map making company!) to explain what everyone is doing where. No need to shit all over the Battle of Helms Deep for it. }}

It's a holdover from an early concept (albeit one that lasted long enough for footage to be shot) where Haldir came to Helm's Deep via Rivendell, bringing Arwen with him.

So he'd have to go up to Rivendell then back down? Seems he covered twice as much distance as the Fellowship between when they left Lorien and made their way to Helm's deep. Elves must by mighty spry marchers.

Yeah, Haldir & Co's travel time makes no sense, even in the finished film where they go straight from Lórien to Helm's Deep.

Then again, this is the same film where Aragorn thinks Éomer has 2000 men with him after seeing this:

I always assumed, apologist-like, that the smaller troop belonged to a much larger force that Aragorn learned of off-screen.

A little mental gymnastics required for that one.

I always thought it was funny that Galadriel has a serious telepathic conversation with Elrond about whether or not to leave men to their doom and clearly Elrond thinks that they should. The Elves that arrived looked all the same and given Haldir matched them they were probably all Galadhrim.

Elrond is such a bastard!
