Is LOTR a 12 DVD box set?
Hey everyone,
I'm wondering if the complete DVD box set is a 12 DVD box set? Below is what I am meaning to ask.
Does it go like this?
Fellowship Of the Ring (2001) has 4 DVDs?
The Two Towers (2002) has 4 DVDs?
The Return Of the King (2003) has 4 DVDs?
And that makes a 12 DVD box set, right?

Re: Is LOTR a 12 DVD box set?
The Extended Edition DVDs of each film have four discs each. The film plus commentaries is spread over two discs, and the documentary features are on a further two. Each film has its own box set, but they are (or were) also available as a single mega-boxset with 12 discs.
The Extended Edition Blu-rays are the same, except that there are five discs per film, as they include an addition set of documentaries (one per film) by Costa Botes that were originally part of the Limited Edition DVD release. However, it is worth noting that only the two discs containing the film itself are Blu-ray, as all of the documentaries are on DVDs.

Thank you so much!
May I ask you some more questions please?
I was going to watch the entire complete 12 DVD box set before The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
I watched so far all 4 DVDs of The Fellowship of the Ring, and I watched the first two DVDs of the movie for The Two Towers. Would you suggest watching the complete 12 DVD before The Hobbit? Or in which order would you suggest watching?

Re: Is LOTR a 12 DVD box set?
Well I would suggest watching just the films first, which is only a total of six DVDs. Once you're through the trilogy you can go back and watch the documentaries if you want, but that's optional. The order doesn't really matter; if you're unsure you can just go in the order that they're presented on the DVD menu.
If you're already two thirds of the way through the trilogy then of course you should finish it, though be warned that The Hobbit may be a disappointment in comparison.

Thank you! So The Hobbit trilogy is a disappointment compared to the LOTR trilogy?

You're very welcome. Only the first Hobbit movie is out so far. I wasn't particularly impressed by it, but by all means, make up your own mind.
