Join me as we countdown to my 1000th post! I've never stayed on any online forum long enough to reach 1000 posts. So this will be a first!

Re: Countdown to Bungo's 1000th Post!
Ooh, I look forward to your impending accomplishment, Bungo! I'm very glad that you decided to stick around here this long, and I hope you'll keep coming back. I'm a little surprised to hear that you've never broken a thousand anywhere else though, to be honest, since you seem pretty forum-savvy.
Re: Countdown to Bungo's 1000th Post!
Thanks, Eldo! I tend to be a quick study with acclimating to a new online environment. And I find that the layout and code used here is A LOT easier than on torn. And the people are nicer too!
I've posted plenty on reddit, but I don't count that as a forum, and I'm not sure if I've ever passed 1000 comments. There really is no way to check there. I'd have to sit and count them all.

Re: Countdown to Bungo's 1000th Post!
I noticed a bunch of Reddit GIFs appearing on the forum when you first joined that I'd seen elsewhere, but not on here before. :DI'm a little jealous of your ability to just slip right in; I always take months to get used to a new online community.
I'm not really fond of the forum software on TORn either; I get that they're trying to mimic the style of their old forum but it's too clunky IMO. I've been a big fan of phpBB for quite some time so it was a no-brainer to go with that when picking a host and setting up the forum. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles as vBulletin, but it's free and open source and that's a plus for me. It was even more of a plus when I was 16 and had no income.

Re: Countdown to Bungo's 1000th Post!
If torn is fine with their antiquated forum software, that's fine. It just means that it deters me from posting there. Posting pictures is a pain the ass. And I don't think my irreverence would be appreciated.

Re: Countdown to Bungo's 1000th Post!
I used to be a mod on lotrplaza.com and I was actually something of a hard-ass when it came to rules and being on-topic and serious. But when I started running this place we already had the Banks clan established and I knew I didn't wanted to try to stop the glorious weirdness. So I decided to try basing the rules on principles of forum libertarianism and we ended up with one of the most irreverent Tolkien forums out there.
Re: Countdown to Bungo's 1000th Post!
In my experience, irreverence is the way to go. It's the only way that prevents you from taking yourself, or the subject matter, too seriously.
And I think it's good for the blood pressure.

Not getting too stressed out about inconsequential stuff is an ongoing effort for me.
Re: Countdown to Bungo's 1000th Post!
It is for me, too. But I try to keep it in mind everyday.

Re: Countdown to Bungo's 1000th Post!
You know, Eldo, lately I've been trying to not sweat the small stuff, or the big stuff. (Although I will admit that most of the big stuff is scary.)
But I just remind myself that I'm not always going to be here, and eventually the earth will be consumed by the sun. So, I shouldn't really sweat any of it. It has been a surprisingly comforting thought to me.

Bungo's Fun Facts: An ex-King's Singer had an affair with one of the professors at my undergrad. He's a late-middle aged spindly looking man; and she's a short, portly, jaded woman who looks much older than she is.

Congrats on almost getting to 1,000 posts, Bungo
It took me forever to make that many, partly because I was posting here and in Bree.

"From him they learnt many things it were not good for any but the great Valar to know, for being half-comprehended such deep hidden things slay happiness; and besides many of the sayings of Melko were cunning lies or were but partly true, and the Noldoli ceased to sing, and their viols fell silent upon the hill of Kôr, for their hearts grew somewhat older as their lore grew deeper and their desires more swollen, and the books of their wisdom were multiplied as the leaves of the forest."
