Realistically Johnson being a narcissist he isn't going to want to be remembered as the PM who broke the UK so how can Sturgeon force his hand? is there any legal way to force another Inyref2?

Well the difference is whether you change a conversation that you're part of, or change it by drunkenly stumbling in from another.

Talking of narcissists, Matteo Renzi is risking the stability of an entire country, during a deadly pandemic and just as vaccines are being rolled out. I think the time has come to stop one man from ruining a country because of political games. It is time to stop political ambitions and arrogance from being able to hold an entire country hostage. I used to admire Renzi, but this is not the time and place, how he doesn't get that is worrying.

So you may know about these ultra tall, ultra expensive residence towers shooting up around NYC's Central Park.

Not so crabbit now! [2] - Page 21 Screen45

Well, wouldn't you know it, when you make a tall building that skinny, it sways in the wind.  And when you run water pipes up and down that thing, the water pressure can get up above what most submarines are tested for.  When you put these two things together, you got pipes bursting and spraying clear across these elegantly appointed rooms, causing all sorts of consternation among the Billionaire's set.

Feeling sorry for them?  Nope, didn't think so. Very Happy

Unless maybe they're steam pipes that are bursting. That's not so funny. But I don't think modern buildings use steam pipes so that's okay.

It's a resource hog.  I avoid it until I have no choice.  I think developers should be banned from using it so they are forced to learn less resource intensive techniques.

oooooh just watching a documentary about the Plaza Hotel in New York, the Palm Court looks amazeballs, I must have afternoon tea there one day. £30,000 a pop to stay the night. Shocked yikes!

One of those places you walk by all the time because it's right on the Park.  The overhang has radiant heating, which is pleasant in the winter.  Some friends and I went in together to buy a truffle and took it into the Todd English food court to grate it over food, but apparently this kind needs to be sauted or something; it tasted waxy.

I think the Carlyle would be more your style.  Check out Betelman's bar; Woody Allen plays clarinet there sometimes with his Jazz band.  Met a friend there once for cocktails (not when Allen was playing) and enjoyed it very much; a piano man was playing and singing, paid through the nose for cocktails.  The nuts and crackers kept coming for free, though.

When Woody Allen plays you have to plunk down $100 just to sit at the bar.

Actually much more to say about that wild weekend: she arrived just when covid was rearing up in the City. It felt like mad dash to get in all the performances before they were closed down: the artists were all thanking people for showing up for what may be their last performance. My friend's hotel had a free hot buffet for the guests, which she snuck me in for. The next night we tried it again and they had closed due to covid: we were seriously riding the wave that whole weekend. Hit Marie's Crisis for it's last gasp: a basement bar catering to the Broadway set, mainly LGBT, all standing around a piano, a whole room full of everyone singing their hearts out for each song. Haven't seen that type of thing for over a year: has superspreader event written all over it, but she was up from DC and we had to cram every thing in before she left.

Yeah, Carlisle gets packed, but perceived as more sophisticated to those in the know.  The Plaza is big and opulent; one doesn't go there to be seen.

compare the Palm Court at the Plaza

to The Carlyle
