Pretty sure the movie-makers discussed the design and modeling process of Barad-dur in significant detail.

In the books, Barad-dur is described as dwarfing both Orthanc (500 feet) and the White Tower (1000 feet, including the hill it was built on), but I don't believe a specific figure was ever given.
