Well might be a better quality cut of Th purist edition sooner than expected- the oscar 'for you consideration' dvd has been leaked.

The good news

Editing is progressing on the oscar dvd.
Quality is significantly better than previous- being about dvd quality.

The bad
Its in xvid format- which means its too compresed for my editor to make use of- well the sound is anyway- this has meant I have had to create a seperate mp3 soundtrack and them match sound to visuals as I go- not only annoying fiddly work, but very time consuming, especially as the playback of the xvid in my editor is not great as it has to decode as it plays, making it jumpy on playback in the editor making the task of lining up sound to visuals all the harder.

Its seriously watermarked- way more than any other of these oscar dvds Ive ever seen. 'for your consideration' style stuff pops up regularly all over the screen (you think that would be so annoying it would effect your opinion of th efilm if you were sent it to judge)- whoever has ripped it has tried to remove these by blurring them out, which is much better than annoying writing but still leaves annoying blurs.


So in short- it will be a better quality edit than the current one and hopefully smoother in the editing- but you might want to wait till after you have bought the EE's for you collection before bothering.

Right finsihed editing TH to my satisfaction (well ok close to it) except one cut- yup one single cut I cant get right and its driving me mad.
Its right after Thorin appears at Bag End and Gandalf introduces him- Im trying to lose the line about can Bilbo use a sword- why is Thorin even asking this? Dwarves know about hobbits their main route to the mountains go right through the Shire, and Bilbo is being hired as a burglar not a warrior of some sort. Like calling in a plumber then asking him if he can do roof tiling.

Anyway bloody PJ has left me one Bilbo reaction shot short. All I need is one shot of Bilbo to put inbetween Thorin saying "so this is the hobbit." and "He looks more like a grocer than a burglar" and there isnt one anywhere in the scene or surrounds I can use- making a nasty cut- and only way not to have it is to leave the offending line in where it will make me crabbit every time I watch.

Basically yes.

I prefer to think of it as a complete pain in the arse- trying to align a soundtrack to playback that onlys plays about 1 in ever 5 frames is not much fun, especially for one prone to occasional crabbitness
