Ok Galadiel is not the oldest elf in ME for a start- Cirdan is older than her.

Yes, Cirdan is master of the Grey Havens, and greets Gandalf and the Hobbits when Frodo takes ship for the undying lands. It's not clear if he goes with them.

My spelling errors aside Cirdan is still older- and he is not only there in the books he is in Pj's own films- twice!- once when we see the elf rings and their owners in the prologue, and again at the end when he ushers them all onto the ship.

No, its PJ- and giving one elf a beard would obviouly be too confusing for our simple minds to take in- so he kept it clean cut and made all elves beardless- you know in case we got confused and thought he was a 6 ft tall dwarf. Mad

Well there are 'questionable' choices in other bits- referring to Frodo and Bilbo as distant cousins isnt wrong, but it is odd given in the book they prefer to refer to each other as uncle and nephew (Bilbo calls Frodo his nephew in his Birthday speech)- they arent strictly uncle/nephew but it is common, in British families anyway, to attribute 'uncle' or 'aunt' to anyone suitably close to the family but who is a non blood relative who is around from a childs birth onwards and is considerably older than them.
I have two aunts who are not blood relatives at all but just long term friends of the family- I still call them aunt though.

Calling Gandalf 'one of the most powerful wizards in ME' is a bit deceptive, there are only 5 of them so of course he would be.

Not sure I would say the WC purpose was to maintain a balance- it was to oppose Sauron indirectly by galvanising the mortal peoples against his deceptions and lies.

Radagast lived in the edge of Mirkwood- he never safeguarded it any more than Bombadil is safeguarding the Old Forest. He does not prefer transport by giant bunny- he rides a horse in the book.

And from the first film not sure how Dori is the strongest film dwarf- if it was a fight between him and Dwalin I know where I'd be putting my buckie money.

152cm is pretty tall for a dwarf. To the point where I'd really question if Thorin even is a dwarf.
I mean he doesn't have a beard and he's not that short.
Norc wrote:the main question is really, is he still shorter than me?
The real question is: what is he?

I transposed the digits before. Five two is 157cm according to a google search.
So yeah, the question stands. What is Thorin?

An imposter! A short guy who murdered the real Thorin and took his place- you'd think in a line of Longberds they might have spotted him. Mad

Exactly. He ain't a dwarf that's for sure.

If the Hobbit needs a third film - that's it right there. The Hobbit part 3: the search for Thorin.
After the battle, Dain sees that the dead guy isn't Thorin and so an investigation begins to find out what happened to Durin's heir.
A psychological thriller!

ur such a crabbit nitpicker, but it's all true Wink one has to be precise Very Happy

152 is tall for a dwarf, but now u say five 2 is 157? but.. but.. argh! all these feet are confusing me!!! D: but they said Dwalin was the tallest dwarf... hobbits are a bit shorter (and slimmer) than dwarves but not much. .. ..

he's still barely shorter than me..

this worries me

In Tolkien’s book, Bilbo doesn’t feel the negative effects when he puts on the ring because he added those effects two decades later for the Rings trilogy. The effects of the ring will gradually build up over the course of the Hobbit movies. Jackson says, “So the first time he puts it on it’s simply a magic ring, but each time he puts it on the effect of it gets to him a bit more.”

so how old is he?
They turned to Tolkien’s appendices for more backstory on why Gandalf chose Bilbo for this task. Gandalf remembers Bilbo as a young child who loves adventure and danger, and is disappointed to find that Bilbo has become stuffy and conservative 18 years later.
