Stand-up Comedy

this is one of my favorite scene

I often think Pratchetts Death character is based on that sketch.
And probably the genius of the whole scene is it largely depends on the perfectly delivery of the three simple words - "The salmon mousse"
Only Python would hinge a comedy sketch on something like that (or maybe the Goons in fairness,who were a big Python inspiration)

I still like this guy ! He did a song & Im dammed if I can find it ! it was hysterical, it was about all the names you call a penis ! sclong, dick todger etc ! Im gonna keep looking !

Ah yes ! I liked him so much ! Never got tired of his shows ! Sadly he died in 2005 I think it was  

 to Biggus Dickus. Not a bad scene in that entire film.

Yeah, Dave Allen sitting in a chair with a table with a bottle of irish whisky on it beside him, cigarette in hand telling funny stories.
I loved watching that as a kid.

I love the moon bit-

"We never put a man on the moon, the moon was never going to be part of the British Empire was it, there's no-one to give it back to once we've done with it. No point going to the moon putting in a railway, trial by jury and Parliamentary democracy, there's no bastard living there is there.

What's impressive is he was ready to go in any direction depending on who he called upon. Not quite improv since I'm sure he's got all sorts of nations in his repertoire, but still impressive. I love the bar as his set.  

Yeah his shows are always audience led, he is very good at interacting with them and makes audience members part of the show.

He is often misunderstood by non-Brits, and taken at face value and people get offended, but it is actually British attitudes he is taking the piss off- hence the persona of a no it all union flag draped london publican.

When it comes to comics flying without a script I always had a soft spot for Ross Noble. To go on and keep the audience enthralled with close to no pre-written material seems some talent to me.



Still some of his stand-up is a bit too esoteric even for me, and he does perhaps function better on something with a bit more structure. Like appearing on Have I got news for you.

And for Gods sake GIVE that man a smoke machine.

Rich Hall- an American comedian who is very popular in the UK- but I have no idea if he is in the US- I really like him-

I've never heard of Rich Hall except online (from British people), but he is quite funny. Pretty sure I've seen the video of him at the Apollo, too.

He's the one who was the inspiration for Moe from The Simpsons, right?

I hadnt heard that Eldo- but now you mention it...  

I recall having heard that somewhere (possibly in one of his own routines? I'm not sure).

The sad thing is I'm walking distance from the Apollo and have never been there. But it seems to have declined: no more "Live from the Apollo" shows anymore.

But wait, I'm confused. He's supposedly at the Apollo but he's talking as though he has a Brit audience. What's going on?
