Oh how we love
to see Davey dance
in his tightly hugging
stripey pants

all the girls
think he's curvy -
and all the boys
secretly pervy -

oh how he pirouettes
and waltzes
heightnin' breathin
quicknin' pulses

even Scots
with buckie glasses -
pimply ponces
of lower classes -

between fingers
give sneaky glances
hold their breath
when he prances

and then at night
frisky and sweaty
Dave trudges home
to girlfriend, Betty

A rather handsome
cow is she
Very cuddly
perfekkly free.

She wandered lonely as a cow -
She was a cow in fact, and how!
A georgeous cow, the cat's miaow!
but now
with hornéd head hung down I do avow
oh so low bowed

Oh Betty Betty
misunderstood
plodding lonely in field and wood
crying tears if but she could
her milk all curdling
and that's not good

while at the farmstead
hand to head
David H lies on their bed -
a great big bed with bedstead -
wishing he was now dead

for his bulky sulky Bossy wife
had left him - and that's not nice! -
to plod around the fields all white
with snow and sleet and ice -
her mournful moos disturbed the night

Oh that David H deserved it all
such a shallow Man (I now recall)
he broke her heart, she ignors his call
he used her up - and much much more -
he's the kind of farmer we all deplore! Mad

Oh how she wanders, lonely Bossy -
among snowy grass and stones all mossy
with the saddest eyes, no longer glossy
her mood so sad, no longer flossy -
Oh poor poor milk-laden Bossy!

'Bossy' is David's name, it's clear,
for his lovey dovey bovine Dear -
which he often whispered in her ear
as they lay in bed so very near
(making love to your cow isn't queer
in America, or so I hear! Shocked )

But Betty will never come back to him
he's shot his bolt, he's tipped his tin,
he's thrown their love into the bin
of history, Do you hear the din
as he cries in the night, all grim?

"Oh Betty Betty, Lover, Cow,
I do declare, I do avow,
One day you'll think me not quite so foul,
And on that day, I'll tell you now,
I'll treat you like my Dairy Queen - and how!"

Not to worry. Ol' Betty's just moody is all. By mid morning she'll come lumbering back with her tail between her legs like all the times before. Come milking time she'll remember she needs me. 7 quarts is a lot to carry, even for that udder.

Pettytyrant101 wrote:Interesting piece on the BBC news- thought I'd give a few highlights here in light of it being Womens Day- seems there's a long way to go yet in the struggle.
This is advice from female journalists to women traveliing to particularly ME countries.

Keep conservative
What may seem unremarkable for a woman to wear in London, New York, Dubai or Paris can be interpreted as offensive or even as a come-on in other cultures. In places such as Afghanistan, especially in rural areas such as Helmand, you may never blend in as a Western woman, but wearing a headscarf to cover your hair, a long-sleeved shirt and some baggy trousers help lessen the stares and deflect at least some of the attention, if not the curiosity. Even a tight T-shirt can bring the sort of attention you just don't want or need, and obviously cleavage is a no-no.

Wear a wedding ring
Even if you are not married, do think about taking or wearing a wedding ring. That applies as much to women travellers as to female journalists. It can help deflect unwanted attention, even if it doesn't stop questions about your marital status. Similarly, it can help to carry photos of your children or your family. Everyone can relate to the idea of family, and it's also a way of beginning conversations and making links with people, whether they're interviewees or those you meet and chat to on the journey. If the worst came to the worst and you were kidnapped, it's also a way of "humanising" yourself, and trying to get your captors to relate to you as a person. Luckily, unlike some colleagues, I have never had to try that out for real. But photos of family can certainly help establish a rapport - not least with other women - while filming abroad.

Avoid wading into large, mainly male, crowds on your own
In some societies, in particular conservative ones where men and women don't mix much in public, its good advice to move in large crowds with a male colleague walking behind you. This is especially the case in large boisterous election rallies. In the excitement of the moment, you could attract unwanted attention. I shared this advice with a Canadian colleague in the late 80s in Pakistan. She ignored it, perhaps believing she had to be in the midst of the action to do her job. She was so badly groped she had to return to the hotel.

Don't be aggressive
The fastest way to make enemies in a male-dominated environment - Afghanistan or the Middle East for example - is to be aggressive. What we may regard in the West as normal assertive behaviour may be seen as disrespect for authority - in most cases here, authority means "male authority". When you show respect for authority you gain allies. When I was held for 20 hours by the Egyptian military, merely for being present at a demonstration, I took care to address my captors respectfully and my experience was a lot better than it could have been.

Don't always look men in the eye
In many conservative Muslim societies (Saudi Arabia in particular) looking a man in the eye may be seen as being "too forward" or even loose. You'll find that men don't look women straight in the eye, as a sign of respect. That doesn't mean that you have to behave meekly. Be very clear and straightforward just don't look a man straight in the face, especially if he is not looking you in the eye.

Be careful with shaking hands
In conservative societies, men do not like to shake hands with women and if you do, it might send the wrong message. Again, it may be taken as a sign of "loose" behaviour. I never offer my hand first. I wait till someone offers their hand to me.

The ful list is here-
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-17288577

The irony is that most of this advice also applies a lot to what the author would consider "safe" western Countries and Cities.

As a nice folow on to that list of tories with vested interests Cameron is in the hot water. His Treasurer had to quit today after the Sunday Times filmed him offering their reporters, posing as prospective large donars to the Tory party, access to the PM and Cabinet Policy UNits. Basically offering influence over law for cash.
Cameron has condemend it of cours and ordered a party inquiry- the opposition parties say thats not good enough and there needs to be an independent enquiry and Cameron should publish a list of all donors ho have atteneded these meet the PM sessions- Cameron is denying however donors have access to shaping policy, and in fact is denying the Cabinet Policy Unit refered to even exists.
Same old Tories. Does explain why in the budget the opther day they raided lower and middle class pensioners whilst giving a tax break to the very rich.

In a followup to the above scandal PM Cameron has 'declined to reveal whom he has invited to dinner at his home - after a request made in the wake of the donor row - because such details are "private", Number 10 has said. But the PM promised a "proper inquiry" into donations after the resignation of Tory co-treasurer Peter Cruddas.'- BBC

Labour leader Ed Miliband said the matter could not be "swept under the carpet" and a "proper independent investigation" was needed.
"We need to know what happened. These are so serious, these allegations, because it's about the way that policy is made, we've just had a Budget in which the tax rate has been cut at the top of the income scale.
"We need to know what access was paid for, if access was paid for, and what contributions were made and the interaction between the prime minister, the chancellor and Conservative Party donors."- BBC

Something is rotten in the state of England- sooner we leave them to it the better.

As an addition to all this and following on from the still ongoing comprehensive enquiry into journalism and phone hacking Rupert Murdoch could not resist it seems tweeting this message-
"@rupertmurdoch: Of course there must be a full independent inquiry on both sides. In great detail, and with consequences. Trust must be established."

At least he has a sense of humour!

Today's Sun ran with the editorial lead-
"Millions will wonder if Osborne scrapped the 50p rate after a few cosy lunches with millionaire backers."

Is that revenge I smell brewing in the air? Suspect

The sound of wheels truning, gears changing and backpeddallin gfully underway is resounding around the Tories!

'Mr Cameron's announcement that No 10 would release details of private dinners he had had with donors at No 10 came amid growing political pressure to release the information.
In a short statement ahead of a speech in London, the prime minister said he had three such dinners in his flat with "significant donors" since he became prime minister.'- BBC

The North Koreans are gearing up to celebrate 100 years since the new state was founded. As is usual this means lots of parading in vast numbers.

The Bigger, Badder, Even More Serious Thread [2] - Page 12 Nkstadium

But what are they all really thinking as they sit there I wonder? Can it really be universal? The same thoughts drilled into each head and repeated ala 1984? Scares the bejessuz out of me that does. What depresses me is George Orwell might be right when he says in 1984 book "the human mind is infinitely mallable".
Its seems to me that their society treats the Party as the West traditionally treated God. And look at what the west has done in the past in the name of that belief in God. Perhaps we should expect no less from N Korea when they act for their Party.

It is scary, I wonder what would have happened if the regime had been founded in the UK instead of NC, would we have towed the party line? or would we have rebelled, is it nature or nurture? is it part of someones cultural character to need such control a kind of nebulous father figure or quasi god. I hope we would have told them to go and stick their brainwashing and laughed at the preposterous little gits, but who knows?

That photo (without my glasses on) makes those North Korean soldiers look like a deep pile carpet! Shocked Which, I guess, most North Koreans are...

I dont think walking over that carpet would be very easy Orwell!

In other unbelievable news there is this from the BBC:

Chancellor George Osborne says he is "shocked" that some of the UK's richest people have organised their finances so that they pay virtually no income tax.
The Daily Telegraph reported that a study by HM Revenue and Customs showed the very rich had reduced their average income tax rate to just 10%.
George Osborne said it was not right that the richest could legally arrange their tax affairs in such a way.
But Labour accused him of "synthetic shock", having cut the top tax rate.
He said he would take "further action" but did not outline any new proposals.'

Probably shouldn't be suprised Osbourne is shocked- he is the first Chancellor we have had in decades with no finanacial backgorund- he did History and Politics at Uni. The fact he seems suprised that the rich dodge paying tax using every scam in the book is possibly true- he appears to know little else about economics ater all.
Still he showed those rich people not to mess with this governement by cutting the top rate of tax-that'll teach 'em! (shame however they have been avoiding paying the tax they were supposed to be anyway) I'm sure reducing the tax burden on the filthy tax avoiding rich will help lots Osbourne- nice one.

Interesting, if quite involved article on the BBC under the headline: Researchers have succeeded in mimicking the chemistry of life in synthetic versions of DNA and RNA molecules.
The upshot of which is;

"There is nothing 'Goldilocks' about DNA and RNA - there is no overwhelming functional imperative for genetic systems or biology to be based on these two nucleic acids."

So if there is life out there it can be life, have evolution but not have any dna or rna. Looks like we need to broaden our definition of life a bit!
