I'm not the greatest fan of rap. I find most of them just talk about 3 things.
1) How great they are cause they have money
2) How great they are cause they hurt people
3) How great they are casue they have lots of sex
Common theme here is what puts me off of most of it.
I like rock and metal most as they generally have something to say. Sometimes the drug usage references get on my nerves, but most tend to be about the problems it causes rather than glamourising it.
Please note that I used the word most twice about rap... not ALL!

Those themes are pretty much standard in popular club rap/hiphop/top40 songs but there's so much more variety than that- it is a whole genre after all.

The first one is an example of what rap should be and as an effective message vehicle has my respect. I guess the more popular forms of rap are successful message vehicles as well: for being a dumbass.
The second is not exactly rap - but it's what I'd hope rap would evolve into: some sense of melody mixed in, rather intriguing the way it flickers around the boundaries between song and rap.
Most rap these days sounds like a donkey braying to me. This second example successfully removes the jarring repetitive rhythm and rhyme. With this stuff out, why is the crap so much more popular?

I have many of their albums and I was at their concert when they were back up here last year (or so..) that was awesome I even got to meet them

Its nice when you find someone likes the things you do, "Poor Leno" was the song that got me into Royksopp, what a great thrill to go backstage & meet them, Cool !

I also like "HIM", this is a fave, but Ive got several others of his I love.
My son is into black Metal & says the best bands are Scandinavian : ("dimmu Borgir) We've notice a lot of Metal bands use Tolkien in their lyrics. And Metal bands are not all "scream & noise", theyre lyrics have plenty of meaning.
