Lafitte's Blacksmith shop and Tavern! Get there soon after 8 pm and you'll find a seat at the piano.

I'm sure you also saw Frizell's right across the street from your hotel. Another place that can be crowded.

Enjoy New Orleans - more fun at night than day, but you'll have plenty of food to track down during the day.

Did you get to Graceland? I think I may have recommended only one night in Memphis which was a mistake on my part. Weren't you stopping Tupelo as well?

Yes, we went to Graceland. Memphis itself, particularly Beale Street, felt really, really run down. We were very surprised there.

Going to try Fritzels tonight if we can get in.

{{ That big music bar looks bit too formal for my tastes, Halfy's recommendation on the other hand looks much more my sort of place, looks almost like a real pub in a real building, made of stone! Shocked }}

Fritzels was OK, was small but we got in by the band and enjoyed a few songs until the band took a break.

Blacksmiths we did last night and was much more fun! Lots of song requests for the poor pianist (some may have come from us)... he butchered a couple but was generally very good. And faithfulness to the original wasn't really the point!

How much you prefer one to the other depends on how much a connoisseur of old style jazz you are.  Me, I like the old stuff, and you'll find more of that in New Orleans than anywhere else.

But Lafitte's is a treat.  If you like piano bars without the crowds try the Ponchetrain Hotel in the Garden district. If you want a piano bar with big crowds (but horrible acoustics) go to Pat O'Brien's.

 You'll also find more modern music on Frenchman street, but on the weekend get there by 8 or you won't be able to get in anywhere. In fact get there by 7 for dinner perhaps, though the only great food there would be Snug Harbor (reservations).

It was our longest stop in a city, but with only 3 weeks couldn't stop any longer. We aren't bit night people these days and neither of us drink... we had a good time though and recommdations were great!

We are by the sea now.

It's hard enough navigating the US night life without drinking, must be like skiing backwards to do so in the British Isles.

{{ Never mind nights, what about days! All that colour, noises, things in focus. How do you stave off the inevitable sense of impending doom and utter futility of existence on a planet that has, given enough time, no future at all in a solar system that will one day be entirely consumed by its own sun before that too collapses into as good as nothing at all, in a universe that will eventually fade away anyhow of entropy? Not to mention having to deal with work, taxes, bills, being ruled by Tories, responsibilities and expectations! Nope! Shocked pale I need a buckie just thinking about it! Mad drunken }}

I might have needed one earlier when a buggy went past with its 'God, guns, Trump' flags all over!

Other than that, the sights and sounds is exactly what makes life fun!

It is awfully quiet around these parts.

Figgy, I saw you the other day after my Niagara pic... you OK?

Did anyone find out where Azriel went?

Is it just the 3/4 of us now? Amarie every now and again. Sometimes Forest. Sad

I am staying in a beach house that is on stilts. All the places around here are.

Seems most of this area was destroyed during Hurricane Ike in 2015 so most of it is new. Wonder how well they have built to withstand another one!!
