Trump reportedly wants to form his own party called the Patriot party. I think that's a great idea: put all the loonies together and fracture the opposition long enough to let the democratic party fix the damage he's done. The Republican party will move to the center and pick up these centrists, the democrats will move to the left, and over time I think this central moderate party will become slightly dominant. I'd be happy with that. Keep the fringe elements at bay.

Huh?  Once Biden went inside I assumed it was over until the night time festivities.

EDIT: oh, the anthem. I tuned in too late for that. But yeah, it's a real bitch of a song - only those with professional grade pipes can do it justice. Gaga's actually one of the few pop/rock singers who actually has the goods to deliver, she's tops in her class.

But there's been even better epic deliveries at the Super Bowl. Whitney Houston's is usually rated as the best, though the sound kinda sucks:

Just have to mention I thought Garth Brooks' rendition of Amazing Grace was incredible, a nice tip of the hat to America's gospel roots.

Have to drop a note in praise of how peaceful it's felt over here without a daily influx of Trump bullcrap stirring things up and casting a pall over each morning.  I know some people are concerned or even enraged that big media would dare to censor anyone, but frankly, it's been pure bliss.

Going on previous it seems the main reason for having midterms is so folk can screw up any chance the encumbent govt has of carrying out its orignal agenda it was elected on, which seems a bit odd. But on that previous form it seems fairly normal for the opposition to win and for it to be very rare for the party in power to make any gains at all, so sadly it looks like republicans will get control of at least one chamber if not both and America will enter an even bigger phase of inactive government and deadlock until the next divisive election with possibly Trump back on the agenda! }}

the theory is that the House is supposed to be more responsive to the people, so they are reelected every 2 years. The senate is the "upper chamber" with 6 year terms so they can take a longer view of things.

Everything I read however from Republicans and Republican news networks is about how they can now derail and stop the Biden agenda- so in practise do midterms not just mean for half any elected governments time in power in the US they cant get anything done? And then rest of time they seem to be campagining for elections, so dont get anything done! Im amazed any side gets any of their agenda through.}}

It used to be that if the two chambers were split the two sides would manage to work together to form compromise legislation. Those days are long gone, and each president does indeed only get 2 years to get anything done. Our democracy has been broken for half a generation.
