Re: Merry Christmas - 2017
Valentine's Day to me is like Australia Day. Why would I celebrate something that has nothing to do with me?

Re: Merry Christmas - 2017
Valentines Day is another merchandising tactic to empty your pockets. I hate it & always have. Loving someone is all year round, each day & in each day you can find 5mins to show someone you care. Id rather that than fuck all 364 days & everything dumped on you for one lousy evening & back to normal the next day as tho nothing had happened.

Re: Merry Christmas - 2017
I mean, that's not what Valentine's Day is suggesting. It's not to love as The Purge is to vengeful murder.

I used to long for Valentines cards when I was a teenager, now it just seems like a cliché marketing ploy, but then I am a cynical cat loving termagant.

Re: Merry Christmas - 2017
Ive never had a card for Valentines, not even from an ex ( very ex ) husband. Ive grown very cynic. I admit I hoped there might be someone who noticed me ? maybe ? but, as its proved their definitely isn't then, I say, fuck it !

This is how I feel about what Christmas turned into. Oh, I'll take one day out of the year and be a good person and try to reflect the life of Jesus Christ.
It's all just lip service. Kids just want toys and adults just want new shit. Take the gifts away and see how many people actually celebrate Christmas.

To be honest, I'd be hard pressed to say what day Valentines Day is
Luckily, I think the other party cares even less than me

{{{Malick, if she says "Oh, you don't have to do anything for Valentine's day" don't listen to her. It's a trap. Just make sure that whatever you do is appropriate for where your relationship is at. (e.g. Don't buy her a ring or jewelry this time around. Maybe take her out for a nice dinner, or send her flowers. Something cliched, I would say, is OK the first time.)}}}

Re: Merry Christmas - 2017
I wouldn't worry so much about it, Malick. There are no right answers. It is all about you and the other person.

Re: Merry Christmas - 2017
I think Bungo's right. A handwritten/hand decorated card may be just about the right level, but whatever feels right to you.
I used to pass out rutabagas for valentine's day. I was once told by a recipient it was the best valentine's gift she ever got.
(Knock-knock. "Oh hi! here's your valentine rutabaga!"
Slays 'em every time. )

Re: Merry Christmas - 2017
I'm not sure how long I'll be able to meet up with her for on Valentines Day yet, but we hanged out most of the day again today and I gave her her presents today instead, she was very pleased with them and the promised kissing practice was very extensive and very fun
Perhaps a bit premature to say, and perhaps we are just overreacting because it's the first relationship for both of us, but we've fallen very very hard for each other...I think I'm in love with her
*Not so in love with the idea of meeting her parents so soon, who are apparently very eager to meet me

Re: Merry Christmas - 2017
First time around you're always ass-over-teacup in love. Enjoy it because eventually you'll get more cynical/realistic about it. Just step back, remember that hormones are hallucinogenic, but as long as you are on drugs by choice you may as well enjoy the trip, right? Nothing wrong with that.
Typical long-term relationship advice is that eventually you'll have to fall out of love in order to see each other clearly, then you'll (hopefully) fall back in love with the real person after the dancing flowers and singing giraffes have settled down. But the dancing flowers and singing giraffes will be a fond memory that bind you. You'll always have Paris.

Re: Merry Christmas - 2017
Even beyond first relationships there's generally an initial head-over-heels period that lasts three to six months. After that things usually start to calm down and you see each other's flaws a little more clearly and whether the relationship continues depends more on if there's a solid emotional core. Obviously this is a generalization.
In any event, I'm glad that you both seem to be enjoying the relationship so far, and best of luck with meeting the parents!

Re: Merry Christmas - 2017
yes, meeting the parents, bet you didn't think of that. I didn't when I met my very very EX. That was a revelation I can tell you.
Me, I'm very nice All my kids are grown up, married & their partners know how lucky they are

Googly moogly, these sorts of discussions are not my slice of pie. I don't know, the whole meta-awareness thing puts me off.
Edit: Perhaps that came across rather harsher than I intended. I don't know.

I'll answer that but it might involve too much meta-awareness so click at your own risk.
- Spoiler:
- Mostly it's a coping mechanism so that instead of being left alone with intrusive thoughts of self-injury or suicide I keep myself distracted in one way or another until I'm exhausted enough that I'm out fairly quickly.
