Re: Future releases [2]
{{ It looks cheap, not necessarily a bad thing Alien was cheap, just interesting. Don't think you can get back to the feel of the first film, so much of it hinges on Giegers extraordinary design and how it's shot, and the fact no one had seen an alien before that looked well, actually alien. Now we've seen the thing on mass, on posters, in comics and games for decades and even memes, it's as familiar to scifi fans as a Stormtrooper, and about as scary. No sequel can ever recapture that feeling of freshness.}}

Re: Future releases [2]
{{ Despite my misgivings about the alien film I do like the things the director is saying, he seems to be ignoring the recent Ridely prequels- calling them 'unhelpful', dislikes the idea the alien is a bioweapon that was only made By David recently, rather than some ancient naturally evolved lethal space species, and he dislikes the holograms and tech in the prequels, saying he prefers and is going back to the retro-future look of the original first two films.
I still think the basic problem exists, it's hard to overcome familiarity, especially with a monster that's supposed to scare you. But he's saying the right things, and he did direct the Fargo tv series so got good work under his belt. }}

That's a fan-made trailer lol
Watching it I was like, "Huh, why do the voice lines have so little weight to them? And why the hell does it have that elephant-trumpeting sound from the Rogue One trailers?"
And then I saw a poorly inserted Michael Fassbender (who is not appearing in the movie) and I knew for sure.

And now there was nothing but the roofs of houses, sweeping along like a great torrent of stones and rocks. Chimney-pots fell, and tiles flew from the roofs..."

Re: Future releases [2]
{{ I fear my fellow consumer of all things alcoholic may have drunk something unfortunate. There's a few things he said greatly concern me.
First Paul should not be out for any sort of revenge, if I remember aright he does not go after the Harkonnen for revenge. It's part of a plan. No one even knows he's alive, they just think it's a Fremen uprising. He goes after their spice production in order to eventually force the Emperor and his troops to Dune to deal with it and so into a trap. This however just sounds like a boring revenge for killing my Daddy film. And that ties with another issue, the Emperor it seems barely gets a mention in this, despite his central role in everything going on. Third Jessica fearing she may have created a monster and regretting it or doubting him (it wasn't entirely clear) makes no sense, she knows exactly what he is when he survives the Water of Life, she chose to give birth to a son knowing she was likely to produce the Messiah a few generations earlier than planned. And lastly it seems clear they have dropped the hugely important fact Paul has been secretly trained up since birth as a Mentat, it seems Mentats and an explanation of them will not be forthcoming, and the brief mention we got in the first film is our lot. This changes the nature and character of Paul quite a bit. Plus he still looks like if I spilled his pint he'd apologise for it Oh, and looks like they've stuck with shooting it in shades of shit and desaturated mud, when it's not shot in infrared making it basically black and white - has the director got a fear of colours? }}

We can never have enough good Dracula movies. The only thing I don't like is the music seems a bit relentlessly percussive for my taste.

that looks good and creepy, several wee breaks through that one ! I can sit through gore but I hate animal cruelty even if it is CGI.

Been quite a while since the first Gladiator which shot Russell Crowe into the limelight. On the face of it the film looks ok, but a blockbuster ? even with Denzel Washington ? Im not feeling it.

It feels too slick to me. The first Gladiator was superbly crafted but still felt genuine.

Re: Future releases [2]
The trailer for the new Nosferatu doesn't seem as creepy as the German original. I thought perhaps this might be the difference between black and white and color. Well, somebody colorized it.
It definitely loses some creep factor.

Re: Future releases [2]
{{ It's tricky to compare, as each director and cinematographer was working to their medium, making particular use of the strengths of each, so until we see the full version of the remake be hard to tell how well he uses colour in the narrative compared to how well the original used black and white in theirs (very well indeed!). I am curious what screen format he uses, in the Lighthouse he used old film, cameras and screen proportions of cinema of the time the film was set in, I wonder if he will choose to do similar again. }}

He did some digging they seem to be coming from somewhere Russian located. So some sort of data gathering exercise possibly. Harmless to watch though if it is. }}

Saw it some weeks ago. Didn't hate it. I liked that they were willing to take time in telling a story, as opposed to the tale-of-a-thousand-cuts style that is the fashion these days.
