Re: Future releases [2]
It's pretty cool to see a science fiction blockbuster style of movie come out of Russia. Except for the early film-makers like Eisenstein I don't recall anything from Russia. And then a quantum leap like this.

Re: Future releases [2]
Indeed, quite interesting when that sort of thing happens.
Speaking of sci-fi and Russian, has anyone heard of or seen this?
One reviewer described it as being "like a Hieronymous Bosch painting". Basically, the film is about an earth-like planet which is in the midst of its own middle ages. Apparently people on earth are watching the developments take place as this other world nears their own Renaissance. I don't know, might be interesting.
Speaking of Lee Pace (over in the Hobbit section) I looked up his IMDB and found that he's set to appear next year in a sci-fi film about "man's last stand" against invading aliens. The film is set in Africa apparently, which reminded me of the state of Africa in the Independence Day sequel.

Ooh, I think that film is probably too artistic for its own good, but I like the techniques the filmmakers used to project the films actors onto those painting-like backdrops.

Re: Future releases [2]
yep I agree with you its a bit too arty farty for its own good, but indeed those special effects are very interesting, don't know whether I could sit through the whole film just to get the good bits though, it looks a bit grim. what with the mediaeval torture n all that.

Re: Future releases [2]
New The Mummy movie coming out with Tom Cruise instead of Brendan Fraser. Meh. Doesn't seem to have the sense of humor that made the earlier version so beloved.

Oh the Brendan Fraser stuff was pure unapologetic fun. Though the quality deteriorated from film to film. This one doesn't look to have any fun in it.

Re: Future releases [2]
not sure how I feel about this. when I saw the original in the 80s I was blown away, I know technology has improved but can this prequel surpass the wow factor of the original or is it just another tedious remake? Blade Runner was already 30 years ahead of its time, can this one make us rethink film making? I have serious doubts. Not keen on Ryan Gosling at the best of times.

Re: Future releases [2]
It's a sequel not a remake. I'd be bitching too if a remake. You can tell from the short bits we've seen it can't touch the feeling of the original, but that's okay since it's not attempting to replace it.

yep sorry I meant to say sequel not prequel. But if it doesn't blow our socks off visually whats the point of it?

Re: Future releases [2]
Money. But yeah, the original was about as good as film can get with a spare dialogue. All style and concept. This new film better be blasted good or they will lose their shirts.

Re: Future releases [2]
I read that Ford only agreed because it was 'the best script he had ever read' maybe mebee not, maybe they all say that. who knows. it needs to up the anti in visual terms though, be the next Avatar, a leap in effects or something.

Re: Future releases [2]
I don't think it needs special effects....it needs style. I didn't see any style in that trailer.
