The Future of Forumshire Empty The Future of Forumshire

Post by Eldorion Sun Apr 01, 2012 6:11 am

Hello all,

You may have noticed that I haven't been posting as actively for the past few weeks. Part of that is because of stuff I have going on in real life, but a large part of it is because of how difficult I knew this post would be to write. However, I really can't keep putting it off, so let me just get straight to the point. I am resigning as the Admin of Forumshire. I don't feel that I can keep handling the requirements of fostering a growing community along with everything else that is happening in my life.

I still care about you guys though, and I want the community to continue to have strong leadership going forward. Unfortunately, GB remains absent and I don't know how many people here are all that technically adept. This has made it hard to try to pick a new Admin. As such, I have decided to go with someone who I know has experience with running forums and who also has a history with Forumshire. I have sold the forum to Dawson King, aka Taz, the administrator of Planet Tolkien and Hobbit Movie News.

I know that some people here will be upset by this movie, but I really think its for the best. I want the community to keep moving forward, and Taz has really proven himself with the way he re-invented the Hobbit Movie News blog. This forum data will be moved over to Planet Tolkien's servers over the course of the next few days. Taz will transition all accounts and posts as of the last backup as soon as he is able. For now, I'll just leave this thread open for everyone to use for chat in the meantime.

Being an Admin here has been an incredibly rewarding experience, and I thank you all for sticking with me and the site through thick and thin. I'll check back as often as I am able, and I wish you all the best going forward!

Sincerely,

Eldorion

It appears this is no joke.

Petty, are you up to making a new Forum?

Just in case, my email is glenn1958@live.com.au. I have Petty's email. Something can be worked out.

Sorry about your situation, Eldo. You've done a great job and I will always remain fond of you for your efforts and your companionship here. I feel as if I've watched you growing up. I can't be angry with you --- but SOLD it? Shrugging

Thank you for your understanding Orwell. I went ahead and unlocked the rest of the forum but I can't promise that all of the most current posts will be included (the move is done from a database backup, but Taz knows more about that than I do). Feel free to post elsewhere, just know that only the older stuff is guaranteed to move.

Would I mess with the hearts of the people of Forumshire by joking about something as cruel as this? I like to think we know each other better than that. Sad

What about this issue of of current posts possibly beuing lost? What of Kaf's and Petty's and Mrs Figgs and Turembar's recent delights? I hope all that doesn't get lost! I haven't got to it all yet but still plan to.

And does Forumshire remain Forumshire, Free Will and all? And still with it's own Rules-of-sorts?

This makes me sad Sad but I do understand. Real life do catch up in the end and I bet it is a big job running this forum. I just wish I had gotten my custom title "gif.ted and forever loyal to our true King, King DI Eldo."
yeah, this will be a cool turn in the Needlehole mysteries! The dark Lord Taz finally taking over. You know, I'm still very stoked on the story. You will pop by right? from time to time? posting stories?? We're gonna miss you and feel very lost if you disappear altogether Sad

I don't like change.. have to admit. and if this forum is no longer free will.. :S I don't want to think about it. well, if someone opens a new forum, then let me know Wink

How sad it must be to die on april fools day, or comitting suicide and calling someone, no one will believe you.
"Listen, I just wanted to say goodbye.."
"goodbye?"
"yeah, I'm leaving this world. I am on a tall building"
"yeah right! call me tomorrow and tell me how the joke went." LOLOLOL! (okay, sad..)

If it was a friend who lived within a cycle ride away I think I'd go and visit. If it was someone far away I think I'd take it seriously and then scream at them if they told me it was a prank... Wink

It'd be a pretty terrible joke though, huh Norc? Wink

I am a bit sad... I didn't even get to play! Eldo, you are so delightfully evil! Kissing

My uncle got married on April 1th. Took a break from work, said he was going to get married ("Haha, sure! See you later!"), went to the city hall, came back to work and texted friends and familiy. I was the only one who wasn't fooled by the date, it was just the sort of thing he'd do. Smile

yeah, it would. But what if it wasn't and no one showed up xD
btw, I read this story (true story) about a woman fooling her boyfriend/husband (can't really remember) on april fool's day. She pretended that she had hung herself. The poor man discovered her, ofcourse was very sad and in shock! (needing a cute orange shock blanket) BUT the woman didn't say anything until the ambulance and all was to put her in a bag. The man divorcerd her or something.
