Hopefully Ohio and North Carolina won't take too long to count/be able to project.

First Senate race of the night, Ohio, called for the Republican incumbent. Not too surprising.

No swing states called yet but news so far from VA and FL sound pretty good, and voting hours extended in several areas of North Carolina, which is also good news for Clinton.

BBC talking about how close the results in Florida are but Broward County has barely started reporting and Palm Beach County is maybe 25% of the way through. Clinton's close to having this one in the bag, and once she does, the race will be over.

Also glad to hear that Tammy Duckworth beat Mark Kirk in the Illinois Senate race.

Most of the people on the BBC are ignoring where the votes that have been reported so far are coming from and what areas have yet to report. Trump has clearly done better than I would have liked but their approach isn't a great one as I touched on in the OP.

Wow. After teaching a night class I took a couple of students to a bar (they were from Brooklyn and didn't want to wait for the ride home). Sat across from a black man wearing sunglasses, a goatee, and a woolen cap over his afro.

Turns out he was born in West Africa, raised in Europe, and he was a Trump supporter. He and the white female grad student started a passionate but totally civil debate. It was lovely Americana and totally Harlem. He was joined by another woman from Senegal who totally disagreed with him but they hung out together. Florida reported too close to call and I bought another drink.

They started to tell arrival to America stories. The cultural difference between Africa and America is rife with stories, and West Africans are the best story tellers in the world. We were in stitches.

I was delighted North Carolina and Florida are leaning Trumpwards...it will be a long interesting night. Though I don't want Trump as president, I also didn't want a boring election. Time to crack open another bottle and settle in for the night.

Clinton is going to win Virginia because of NOVA, as the data guys kept saying, despite the talking heads (even on the BBC) not wanting to hear it. Certainly not as much of a margin as she "should" have had, but a win's a win.

The big question right now for me is Michigan. There have been strong signs from early voting and exit polling that Colorado and Nevada will stay blue. With that in mind, if Clinton is able to hold on to Michigan then she wouldn't need to win any of the other swing states in the East.

I'm standing by my prediction that if Florida, North Carolina and Nevada all go for Trump then it's a coin toss, and it seems to be going in that direction.

Hoping we don't have to suffer through another recount.

BBC just called Ohio for Trump which is the first major swing state that they've called.

Waiting to see what the networks say about NV but I think the limited signs so far have been encouraging.
