Wait wait wait. So... The Hobbit isn't a documentary about working-class struggles in New Zealand??

No but the film struggles to work
Does the EE explain why Dwalin/Balin dissapear halfway through the battle for no reason?

Eh, I'd rather have something like that than the Hobbit trilogy we ended up with

Not as "heartfelt" as I thought this moment would be, based on accounts of others. They don't seem like the friends they ought to be by now, and that's probably because the only other scene they had together was two movies ago!

Yeah, Bofur is acting strangely menacing. And there's really no wonder this scene was cut, considering that it is meaningless because when Bilbo does return by the morning I'm sure they didn't film Bifur's reaction to that.

Well, Bilbo encourages Bombur to go inside stating he ( Bilbo ) couldnt sleep & that he would keep watch, as soon as Bombur buggers off Bilbo slips on the ring & goes awol. Now why in fooks name couldnt peejers have stuck with that ? Was it really so boring in his eeny weeny teeny tiny mind ?

Turns out the emotional speech was just some rhyme bullshit. I have no problem with this... but it sounds awkward not coming from a dwarf. I just can't picture Gandalf ever saying this. It's still better than what we got, though.
The scene is at 3:57

For some reason I tried watching the whole clip and Dean O'Gorman refers to Thorin as the lead character of the book. Not of the movie; he's explicitly talking about the book and says it was "interesting" that Tolkien chose to do that.
It was kind of funny going back and forth between Gandalf's doggerel and Peter Hambleton (whose name I only know cause it was in the graphic) talking about how powerful and amazing the eulogy was.
Re: The Hobbit EE in theatres: one last one last time
Yeah, that Puccini story sounds like a load of B.S. to me. Surely something that would have been plastered onto a "meme" and shared on social media if it had existed in the 19th century.

That's pretty impressive. I don't often feel compelled to quote Martin Freeman, but, come on.. The name's in the damn title.

Maybe he should be called Dean O'Gormless...Bluebottle wrote:Eldorion wrote:For some reason I tried watching the whole clip and Dean O'Gorman refers to Thorin as the lead character of the book. Some funny stuff with Lee Pace and the horse, but the bit about Ian McKellen and the book just reinforces how we've already felt and what we've known for a long time.

Everything about that video was great. Especially the Ian McKellen parts.
