Re: Just...................whatever [5]
Specifically.. it is a ramp overlooking Rio that I ran off this morning. That beach is where I landed!
Was strapped to a hang glider... that may help explain a little more.
At Rio airport now! Coming home.

Tandem flight I must suppose. I fly hang gliders, am well acquainted with what could happen without proper training.

btw, that launch looks delightful, and the beach inviting despite being a cross wind landing.

I'm getting a strong Valkyrie-mount vibe.

And now there was nothing but the roofs of houses, sweeping along like a great torrent of stones and rocks. Chimney-pots fell, and tiles flew from the roofs..."

Wanted to register for Petty's benefit that I had my first taste of Laphroiagh Scotch. Loved it - the only scotch I've ever tasted that didn't remind me of tea made from steeped cardboard.

Controversial choice Halfy- but I'm with you ,I adore the smoky island single malts. (I'm a partiucualr fan of those with strong peaty aroma's)
I am guessing from our description of other whisky's you've tried that they were perhaps blends and not single malts.

Hmm...I've tried Islay singles and had the same cardboard aftertaste experience. This is the first Scotch I've had that didn't turn me off. I only tasted my friend's drink after the aroma wafted my way, but will be back to get a full drink. Truly something amazing. Went well with the Billy Holiday performance.

Re: Just...................whatever [5]
My personal favorite are the malts that dont even feel like drinking a liquid- they are like inhaling the heady aroma from a peat fire, it seems to turn to vapour in the mouth.

Re: Just...................whatever [5]
Peat smoke is one of those smells that transports me. I think it must touch early childhood memories of tending the cranberry bogs.
I frankly didn't see the point of what's labelled as Scotch Whiskey until one evening a hospitable Scotsman took it upon himself to show me the light.
When we got to the dark smokey ones, I became an instant convert.
Unfortunately I don't know where I'd buy such a thing around here, or if I'd have to sell my truck to afford it. I suspect the Scots wisely keep most of the good stuff at home.

Shouldn't that be Irish whiskey?
