If hip hop as a whole was evolving in that direction I'd be much happier with it. There's still too much preference for monotony, but Usher and Kanye are making inroads...

Liked the Young Thug verses.  Not familiar with Jamie xx but I did like the beat too.

Yeah, it's just a really catchy song. (Which can be an issue with rap, I agree with Halfwise on that.)

As for the verses, someone called them gleefully profanic.. I think I'd go with that.

Like.. this is cool.. But I don't know if i think if it's enough of a real song for me to really like it.

By what possible definition is that not "a real song"? It leans more to the experimental side than most music, but like, it's not that out there.

Not a real song as in not a melody.  One of the dimensions of music has been crumpled up and disposed of.

That's a very limited and, dare I say, dated view of what music can be.  I have to say, it really weirds me out that you only ever complain about hip hop for breaking these "rules" or being "monotonous".  I know bungo brought up Philip Glass in response to one of our previous discussions on this topic.  Or, have you ever listened to the Velvet Underground?  Just a couple of examples. Experimental music has been around for ages and it's by no means limited to hip hop.

Yeah, it's a bit monotonic for what I look for in a song. (Not because it's rap really, just in general. (Perhaps I'm just unimpressed with the chorus?)) I did say I liked it though.

Personal preference is what it is, there's no right or wrong in that sphere, I was just confused by the "real song" comment.

There is no right or wrong, only, different.
I keep my lug holes open to all sorts of music, I like the journey, finding out new music/Artists. Like trying out new food, if you dont taste a bit how will you ever know if you like it ??

I've been listening to a lot of listener-supported radio lately (mainly a station run out of the University of Pennsylvania) and they were rebroadcasting an interview with Father John Misty today as part of their 2015 retrospective. Only caught a tiny bit of it in the car but it made me think of Blue.

Wow, small world. I guess.. he very easily might come across as a bit.. pretentious or whatever. But mostly, to me at least, he just comes across as a really interesting guy. And either way he's got the humor thing down pat, as his answering of audience questions above shows, he's hilarious.

I think you've gotta have at least a little bit of pretentiousness to really have a go at any creative endeavor, much less to be successful at it.  Being playful about it is generally a good thing in my book though.

Yeah, I'd say that's pretty much my view too. Although, it is something he's touched upon himself.
