Re: A Song of Ice and Fire [2]
I am sick to death of this tired trope. Female characters telling everyone that they can be stronger and smarter and faster than the men, and then in the movie they are! And always, always at the expense of the male cast. Because apparently these lunatic hacks of writers can't elevate one without stepping their dirty shoes all over the faces of the other.
It's in so many damn movies now. Is there any other theme left in these Hollywood hacks' brains? It's not good. It's not a healthy trend.

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire [2]
I get what you mean and if they go that route its pretty boring, but from what I have seen I haven't got the impression they are doing the female superhero stuff. One female mentioning patriarchal succession doesn't mean all the women are all going to be man-crushing Amazons. I would watch it first before you judge. I mean they are Targaryan women not subervient Handmaids, there is going to be a lot of feisty Khalisi stuff and general shit going down.

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire [2]
One reason to not worry about it being all about female empowerment is that GRRM seems quite happy with it. Though feminists generally approve of his work, it's not because he's embedding messages; he just writes strong women in a realistic way. I don't think he'd be quite so ebullient if some messaging was written in there. He's all about hard nosed realism.

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire [2]
I totally agree with that analysis. What other writer would give us Brienne of Tarth or Yara Greyjoy. These days it takes courage to portray non-beautiful women. That's what I liked about GoT, it had ordinary looking women doing extraordinary things, they weren't your bog standard Hollywood perfect. Those new actresses look particularly peculiar, almost an Albino/Mongolian face.

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire [2]
And yet the Game of Thrones show cast beautiful women in all those roles. Truly a masterful adaptation.
GRRM "endorsing" something before it comes out is not an indication of its quality. It's all political maneuvering unless he has nothing to gain from talking about it.

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire [2]
Only the women who were described in the book as beautiful were cast as beautiful (Cersei, Danyris, Sansa, Margery). The rest were appropriately average looking. In fact Yara/Asha should have been totally irresistible to men in a tom-boyish way, and the actress cast (though a very fine actor) was not. Arya, Catelyn, Brienne, all totally ho-hum in the looks department. I'd say except for Arya being moon-faced instead of horse-faced as described it was very fine casting.

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire [2]
Not completely new, but now GRRM is saying his ending will be different from the TV show. You can skip to 2:45 since there's some misleading titles.

I'm so fucking over Game of Thrones lore.
"Wow what cool worldbuilding! I love these 2,598 unique characters that will never appear in another novel in GRRM's lifetime!"

My ex-husband has just told me he was an extra in House of Dragon, he was on a beach running away from dragons. I am so jealous.

You'll have to watch for the scene, may not even be able to pick him out. But just being attached to the show is cool.

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire [2]
So I finally got the first two episodes of House of the Dragon popping up in my queue. Looks like the production values and acting are as good as game of thrones. My only problem with the deathbed ceasarian scene is they didn't have to show all of it.
But there's no characters you fall in love with, so won't be as heartbroken when they get killed off. But I'm only two episodes in, that may change.

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire [2]
We know we are getting a Dunk and Egg series, so who should play Duncan the Tall? My guess is they'll ask Henry Cavill. He may refuse, then who? I don't know if Cavill can pull off the naive but stubborn look.

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire [2]
Looks good, but couldn't endure the narration over random shots. Gave up a few minutes in.
