The Stolen Orange

When I left I stole an orange
I kept it in my pocket
It felt like a warm planet

Everywhere I went smelt of oranges
Whenever I got into an awkward situation
I'd take out the orange and smell it

And immediately on even dead branches I saw
The lovely and fierce orange blossom
That smells so much of joy

When I went out I stole an orange
It was a safeguard against imagining
There was nothing bright or special in the world

and this my favourite, its very difficult for me to explain why, I dont know why. it speaks to me.

A Small Dragon by Brian Patten


I've found a small dragon in the woodshed.
Think it must have come from deep inside a forest
because it's damp and green and leaves
are still reflecting in its eyes.

I fed it on many things, tried grass,
the roots of stars, hazel-nut and dandelion,
but it stared up at me as if to say, I need
foods you can't provide.

It made a nest among the coal,
not unlike a bird's but larger, it
is out of place here
and is quite silent.

If you believed in it
I would come hurrying to your house
to let you share my wonder,
but I want instead to see
if you yourself will pass this way

It is a song that makes me happy, Chris; so happy I get sad. Life is a veil of tears, but you still gotta taste the joy, or what's the point?

To steal some famous words, "well, I'm back."
I've been in a bit of funk, such things strike from time to time.
We had a storm today, I went out to take some photos, I couldn't work out if the universe was joining me or mocking me.
I suspect now it was mocking me and that was good as like all storms you can wait them out, and they pass and just need to be taken in their proportions. And knowing that you can walk through the dark with a wry smile on your face.















And as these pictures prove, there is beauty, even in a storm, external or internal.

I'm sorry to hear that you haven't been feeling so well, Petty.  I hope that your funk passes soon, but regardless, we're here for and thinking of you. Including me, now that I'm back and posting regularly again.

Cheers Eldo, Im on the way out of it, I can always tell, I only ever go so low before my crabbit steps in to save me. Failing that, blind drunk will do.

The real question CC is how much can I handle when drunk?- as thats much more likely, especially when also ill.  

Glad to hear you're feeling better again, Petty. Do whatever works for you to snap out of it - for me, there's nothing like the music and lyrics of Warren Zevon to help me out of a miserable spot It's good to have you back, it really isn't the same place without you, just like Eldo said.

Speaking of Warren Zevon, am I the only one who thinks of Ringo the Army Man when I listen to "Roland the Headless Thomspon Gunner" (Norway's bravest son)?

Thanks Ringdrotten, Eldo fortunately it doesnt happen to often, although to be honest I have no idea what brings it on any more than I do why it leaves again. There is no difference between life recently and life when I was in fine mood, no apparent event to trigger it.
