Just like Tauriel pulls me in; if her elven dress doesn't have a slit clear up to her armpit I'm gonna complain something serious.

However. Thorin is wearing the Mithril shirt in the film, so they are obviously changing it from being an anonymous prince's shirt to something Thorin gives him as a personal gift.

Halfwise Im tak=lking about Thranduil being mentioned by name in the Hobbit book , You must have mis-understood me because the council of ELrond is in TFOTR.

Figgs Im not disputing you totally , I just dont see the connection you are making with the Mithril Shirt, Where are you getting this connection that it is the same shirt , Mithril was very pricey so most folks didnt have it incorporated in theyre armour , And Thorin & company where down on theyre luck struggling to survive , so I cant see him having a priceless mithril shirt .In the book ,they have really no armour or weapons that are mentioned , till The three swords are aquired from the troll lair , later they get some bows from Beorn, its possible I missed somthing in the movie as I was about to fall asleep .I believe all that is mentioned is that they have some mine excavating tools such as picks and mattocks . I dont mean to be so negative ,but its not the hobbit , its a very poor attempt at being a prequel to LOTRs and a prologue of the history of middle earth & a poor attempt at that as well , for someone who had rights to the appendices it was very poor use of source material you could just about make a movie with the stuff that was left out & misconstrued and twisted. Maybe Ive read these books too many times and become a fanatic about it ,I dont even know how many times Ive read them anymore I had read them more than twenty times by age 18. Talking bout being obsessed with Tolkien Huh.

Nothin unusual in your position at all Truth! Pefectly reasonable in my view- you could make a film out of just the bits PJ has screwed in TH.

Dearest Truth I SAW it on Thorin in the film. I dont know how to make it clearer to you. I am only saying that its in the film, and I suppose Thorin gives it to Bilbo as a parting gift.

If you need to check its in the battle scenes of Aziwhatsit.

It would fit with the way PJ's films have to invlove everything- the Arkenstone cant just be a hugely beautiful coveted jewel- it has to become the jewel you need to be King.
So it does follow in PJ world that Bilbos mithril shirt couldnt just be a mithril shirt- it has to be Thorins mithril shirt.

well it makes sense to me. and it would be a nice continuity thingie.

Of the changes Pj has made I dont particularly mind this one- it doesnt really affect or significantly alter anything or any of the characters- Id file it under unnecesary but acceptable as adaptation.

It may just have shiny stuff because Thorin has been taking fashion tips from Thandypants , Thandy and Leggy do have alot of feminan features , I wonder if Tauriel is going to be kindof Butch that would sort of equal things out .

I enjoyed those deletes, half should have been kept in, replacing other stuff that stayed! Eowyn was the one character that I DID believe in, she showed guts & determination & didnt back down OR ignore the ones that relied or needed her. Im glad she "found" Faramir, (lucky moo!) We could do with a Faramir in OUR lives, (ladies only guys! grab yer own fella!)

I wish they could have kept most of the Elven bits, and its interesting that Elrond was in favour of men not doubtful of them in one scene. and yes the Eowyn bits in the GC. that shot of Legolas in Rivendell was gorgeous, and Arwen on the bridge.

Wasn't there a discussion ages ago about Elrond citing the "one ring to rule them all" verse during the Council of Elrond scene? Orwell was right, it just never made the final cuts!

I am still claiming a victory here Orwell, as the matter under discussion was using Elronds version for the opeing of my edits- but its not the whole Ring verse so itss no good, even if, admitedly it does exist.

Scouring Mrs Figg- where did you see Scouring?
