Hello Chris!

Yeah, the first time I downloaded an early small copy of Petty's LotR edit I had to call for help from a computer geek friend who fortunately was a bit of a Tolkien fan. It took about 45 minutes, though I guess the bigger ones take longer. It's not hard once somebody walks you through it, and they're really cool!

Or you could do what I'm doing now and mailing him a flash drive. It takes a month or more to get back here, but then all I have to do is stick it into the USB slot, open the file and play! cheers

Im not much better Chris, But, I seem to pick things up if you show me & dont whizz thru it at 100 miles an hour ! If I get stuck I ask, or google it. But its much nicer to have someone with you to show things, then you can also ask "whats this ?"..."whats that ?"..... & I make notes, or bookmark the page for later reference. Its the computer JARGON that gets me !!!! Speak in words we can all use !

I find it takes longer to explain to people how to download and watch my edits than it takes to actually do it.
It sounds more vcomplicated than it is- all it really boils down to is folowing a ling, downloaing a folder full of files, extract them and watch.

If you do opt for just sending me a mem stick to bung them on Chris you will need a mem stick thats quit big- 40 gigish for alll LotR's plus TH.

For me the critical thing was finding an unrar utility. I think it must be built into Windows but not into mac. But then Norc pulled it off, and as far as I know she doesn't use the unix command line, so I dunno how she did it.

I dont think winrar or anythng is part of windows, its just very common to be on a pc as well as windows when you buy it- and if not its easy enough to get with a quick google search.

I havent used a mac since I was at college and that ws 20 years a go so I supect they are a bit different now!
I assumed there was a mac version of winrar- but I havent looked to be honest.

Just did a quick search -
unRarX 2.2

seems popualr on mac and

RAR Expander 0.8.5 for Mac OS X

uses the same rar progammae as winrar so should work fine.

Those may work within OS X automatically. With my unix leaning I looked for something that let me do it by command line, searching for 'unix rar'. Should have searched for 'OS X rar' and I would have come up with what you did. I suppose that's what Norc did, but we have to wait for her to finish her test to find out.

5 hour math test??

OS X doesn't even feel like a unix system

That's the beauty of it. Unix would totally suck if it weren't so powerful. OS X lets you ignore the unreal klutzy geekiness of unix for most things, but it's there for you when you want it. I spend about 20% of my time on Unix for work related stuff, and occasionally for non-work. Nothing is better than unix for things like finding all files with the word 'petty' in them and moving them to their own safeguarded folder.

I will send you the new links before getting you to send a usb here- as downloading should be a lot quicker than post to and from Oz!

Could you pm me your email address please.
