Depends how much PJ expands the role- there is plenty speculation that Beorn will have a personnal vendetta with Bolg- Bolg has bear paws as part of his body armour- and speculation that Bolg wiped out all the shapeshifters except Beorn.
It is, as far as I know only specualtion based on Bolg's armour- I think yet another personal vendetta is layering it a bit thick myself and will only further detract from this being Bilbo's story once you add in all the WC stuff too. So I hope they dont do this.

Yep. I can see it now: Beorn is an angsty loner whose entire people was wiped out Nod
A-and people don't like beornings. So that way he has a character arc. A sort of personal journey to get people to accept him. When he meets the most unlikely creature imaginable: Bilbo Baggins from the Shire!

Im really hoping that the Beorn episode doesnt turn into "Narnia", I hope the Dwarves turn up in 2s & 3s just after Gandalf & Bilbo have had a chance to tell some of their story. I want to see Beorn suspicious & then being won over, & I want to see him hiding in the shadows as a bear as Gandy & co get to Mirkwood, I want a bit of bloody suspense! I didnt feel that ONCE in the film so far,but I did in the book. Yeah, you can say..."well thats cos of your imagination, doing it to yourself"..But you CAN get that from a film also! Shocked

I like Narnia. and talking animals. Beorn had intelligent animals, and they could obviously communicate with Beorn. I like the fairy story elements of the book, thats the whole reason i like the Hobbit. I like talking Crows and Spiders its lovely.

I like Narnia, I like talking animals, I love fantasy, Im worried I guess in case PJ makes it to syrupy sickly sweet. I know The Hobbit is more for children than adults,(originally) but, Id like a bit of "edge" to it, something that makes your tummy tingle & wanna go for a wee !
